Who would have thought the Colorado Buffaloes would lose to the 1-4 Stanford Cardinals on Friday night? Shedeur Sanders‘ team was the firm favorite to record back-to-back victories, and the entire country would once again witness his now iconic watch celebration, or as DJ Khaled said, ‘the Shedeur.’

Colorado got off to a great start, taking a 29-unanswered lead as Stanford looked disjointed. Shedeur threw more than 250 yards and recorded three touchdowns. The returning Travis Hunter scored a 24-yard touchdown. Xavier Weaver did even better, making three endzone runs.

However, the situation took a drastic turn in the second half for Deion Sanders‘ Buffaloes. Stanford started clawing their way into the game. They moved quickly and appeared to have figured out the Buffs’ weakness, which is the secondary defense.

The Cardinals started playing the long pass game and began to bear fruit. Quarterback Ashton Daniels found star receiver Elic Ayomanor for 97 and 60-yard touchdowns in the third quarter. Still, they were looking to focus on the passing game and increase their potency on third downs. It gave Bryce Farrell a few sneaky TDs to keep the resurgence alive.

Folsom Field watched in awe as the game, which looked done and dusted just an hour ago, went into overtime twice. In the end, luck ran out for the home team as kicker Joshua Karty won Stanford the game with a 31-yard field goal.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t the day for Shedeur to pose for his famous celebration. That doesn’t mean it didn’t pop up at all. Cardinals No. 71 offensive lineman Connor McLaughlin saw an opportunity and flexed his left arm at the camera, mimicking Sanders. Even though he did not have a watch on his wrist, that gesture was enough to establish a statement.

When did Shedeur Sanders’ famous watch flex begin?

Prior to the 2023 season, Shedeur Sanders’ was still an unknown prospect. He switched from Jackson State to Colorado with Coach Prime last year. But Sanders’ has been a massive revelation, putting up eye-catching numbers almost every game.

But there was one other area that caught the public’s attention. It was a diamond-clad watch that he first flexed against a Nebraska Cornhuskers player. This has become a weekly tradition for Shedeur to prove a point. Whenever CU wins a game, one can bet to see Shedeur flexing at either the stands or the camera.

Not that it mattered last night, even though he put up great numbers once more. Shedeur Sanders completed 33 passes for 400 yards and threw five touchdowns and one interception. Next, he will face 18th place. UCLA Bruins
