TV personality Stephen A. Smith has publicly attacked Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis for defending Josh McDaniels despite the Raiders’ poor form this season. Their terrible 25-20 loss to the Indianapolis Colts at home dropped them to 2-7 this season. They are currently at the bottom of the AFC West division and have lost their last 3 games.

Despite this, Raiders owner Mark Davis is backing Josh McDaniels to do well. Speaking to ESPN, Davis said that McDaniel deserves some more time since he’s new and detailed on how they lost six one-score games, which was very marginal. He said that he gave him his vote of confidence and reminded everyone that Rome wasn’t built in a day.

“People in today’s world want instant gratification. The guy’s coached nine games. We’re 2-7, not the results we’re looking for but at the same time, we’ve lost six one-score games with the ball and a chance to win at the end. I gave him my vote of confidence when I signed him to a contract to be the coach of the Raiders. That’s when I gave it to him. Rome was not built in a day,” Davis said.

Stephen A. Smith didn’t agree with Davis’ statements at all and on First Take, he bashed Davis for his comments. He went on to say that Davis’ comments were the ‘dumbest’ he has ever heard by a team owner.

“I’m not gonna let owner Mark Davis off the hook. I want Mark Davis, who I’ve met a couple of times, I wanna say this on National television to Mark Davis, that was one of the dumbest quotes I’ve ever seen an owner make. That was just stupid. You’re not stupid, you’re not dumb but the quote you gave was one of the dumbest quotes I’ve ever seen from an owner,” Smith said.

He argued that the team made it to the playoffs last season where they looked very strong, led by a committed quarterback, and hence someone should be held accountable for the performance.

“Your team was just in the playoffs last year. They won the last 4 games during the regular season and if I remember correctly, it was a competitive game against the Bengals. The fact of the matter is that in the last 5 weeks of the 2021 season, we saw a playoff team, we saw a playoff-quality quarterback who elevated himself to be the true face of the franchise because of the manner in which he led the team after all the adversities,” he said.

The Raiders, who are on a 33-match losing streak, will now face Denver Broncos on Sunday. They will then face the Seahawks, the Chargers, and the Rams in the following week.
