The NFL 2023-24 season did start on a good note for the New York Jets despite winning the first game. The Jets’ biggest bet was their star quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The QB decided to start a fresh chapter after spending 18 years with the Green Bay Packers. The stage was set for him, and the Jets’ fans eagerly waited to see him thrashing other teams.
However, things went differently as Rodgers suffered a significant injury in his Achilles and left the field in the first half. His stint lasted short. Later, multiple personalities associated with the Jets said Aaron might be out for the season due to the injury. The first person to assert this statement was Robert Saleh, the head coach of the Jets.
A pertinent question arose with Rodgers out of the season: Has the season already ended for the Jets? Do they have any chance to make the way to the playoffs? The ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith believed the Jets could continue winning and making the playoffs but also added that they don’t have a shot at winning the Super Bowl anymore.
“Their season is over as far as I’m concerned. The expectation was for them to win the Super Bowl, that’s over. If reports are out and he is going to be out for the season with the Achilles injury, will they have the opportunity to make the playoffs? I think that’s a huge question on him too. They are knocking on the door. One would like to believe the influence channel that Aaron Rodgers may have had on a guy like Zach Willson; being in the quarterback room, being with him in the last few months, trying to school him not to mention the fact that I don’t believe if Aaron Rodgers is injured he is never going to show up in practices, never going to show up in locker rooms, not being a person to help Zach Wilson to improve,” Smith said.
“So I would say it because of how well they defend with the combination of Hall and Dalvin Cook along with an experienced guy like Lizard, so without Aaron Rodgers, they still are better than last year. So I believe they have a chance,” he added.

Smith also insisted that the Jets have a better team this year, and their offensive abilities are also good compared to the previous year. Hence, they have a chance to make it through the playoffs.
Who is going to replace Aaron Rodgers?
Another pertinent question arises: Who will replace Aaron Rodgers for the season? Zach Wilson was the option for the Jets in the game against the Bills. However, is he ready to take Rodgers’s position for the entire season?
Wilson may just be enough for the Jets. In a post-match presentation, Zach Wilson hinted that this was the right time for him to step up this season. He also spoke about how Rodgers helped him throughout the summer and felt he was in better shape than in the last two seasons. The Jets could trade for a veteran QB to fill the spot of Rodgers.
Wilson’s performance against the Bills was also good. He had 14-of-21 passes for 140 yards with one touchdown and an interception. On the other hand, Robert Griffin III went on national television and pitched an idea to replace Rodgers for the Jets. However, that option might not come to fruition.
