“That is AN ATROCITY”: Stephen A. Smith DENOUNCES Russell Wilson for not living up to the expectations in Denver

Stephen A. Smith calls Russell Wilson the worst-performing quarterback in the NFL.

The Denver Broncos are the most disappointing team in all of football. With immense talent across the board, offensively and defensively, the team has relied more on the leg of their kicker than on the arm of quarterback Russell Wilson. Before the commencement of the 2022 NFL season, Bronco county was riding high and singing praises about their new franchise leader but just 7 seven weeks into the season, the team seems to have fallen off their high horse even before climbing on it.

Russell Wilson is currently dealing with a partially torn hamstring. He has a lot to think about as he recovers. This season, the quarterback we are witnessing in the Mile High Club is not the same person who led the Seattle Seahawks for the last decade. He appears to have lost his confidence and his mobility on the field. The 2022 NFL season is probably the worst of his career and as a result, he is being subject to the harshest of criticism from analysts and fans alike.

Russell Wilson’s completion percentage this season is the lowest of his entire career

Stephen A. Smith and Russell Wilson
The 2022 Denver Broncos squad is riding out of playoff contention if Russell Wilson continues to play like that.

ESPN First Take analyst Stephen A. Smith had some harsh words for Russell Wilson over his performance this season. He has been calling the quarterback out for his under-par performance all season long and believes the quarterback is not just throwing away the Broncos’ season but is also wasting the potential of top wideouts such as Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton.

Here’s what Stephen A. had to say, “When you look at Russell Wilson, that is AN ATROCITY that is taking place. In the Mile High City, the only damn thing that is good about Russell Wilson being in Denver is that Ciara(Wilson) is there with him. Football-wise, he is not getting it done. He looks horrible. You got a 2-4 record, you’re completing 58% of your passes, you got Jerry Jeudy, you got Courtland Sutton, you had Javonte Williams before he went down, and possibly you were the reason he got hurt.”

That squad on paper looks elite, as all the players on that list are certified ballers. However, despite having a stacked offense, Russ has failed to make use of that chemistry and, at this point, Denver seems to have paid their quarterback $245 million for nothing. The team’s kicker has done more than the entire offense this season.

Stephen A. Smith goes on to criticize the Denver Broncos offense, “When you got to rely so much on the running game because the passing game is so horrid, the bottom line is it’s on you(Russell Wilson)… Courtland Sutton can ball, Jerry Jeudy can ball, they can get up.. but can you get them the ball? The offensive line has had (their) issues but they’ve given (Russell Wilson) enough protection on enough occasions for him to be completing over 58% of his passes.

Stephen A. Smith’s comments are justified. This season, Wilson has looked worse than any other quarterback, even Baker Mayfield, and that is saying something. His decline is shocking as nobody saw this coming. For his entire career, Russell Wilson has always been consistent and has always shown up. However, this season, the man playing for the Denver Broncos seems to be the exact opposite of the quarterback who led the Seattle Seahawks for 10 years.
