“Didn’t know who the HELL that was”: Stephen A. Smith is at a loss for words after Tom Brady and the Buccaneers lost to P.J. Walker
Tom Brady has lost to two backup quarterbacks in two consecutive weeks.
The 2022 NFL season is full of surprises. The teams that have conventionally been elite are not performing well. Seasoned veterans such as Matt Ryan, Tom Brady, and Aaron Rodgers have been having nightmarish seasons. The Green Bay Packers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are both 3-4, that record is worse than the New York Giants and the New York Jets.
Both quarterbacks are under .500 and they have not been in this position in a really, really long time. This could be the last season that we see both the iconic quarterbacks play as the thought of retirement seems to be looming on both of their minds. There is no reason that Brady and Rodgers would want to come back next season if they have no shot to make the Super Bowl.
Tom Brady is losing to second and third-string quarterbacks this season
There is something wrong in Tampa Bay, especially since Tom Brady has a great squad around him, with Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Julio Jones, who is injured but is likely to return very soon. The quarterback’s chemistry with his elite wideouts has reduced. In the game against the Carolina Panthers, Brady and Evans seemed to be playing for the first time as they failed to connect on wide-open passes that would have translated into guaranteed touchdowns.
In light of Tom Brady’s horrendous performance in the past two weeks, ESPN First Take analyst Stephen A. Smith could not believe what he was seeing from the veteran quarterback and made some sarcastic comments hinting that he should have stayed retired.
Here’s what he had to say, “Here’s what we have to take into account when we think about Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady. (Tom Brady) has had Mitchell Trubisky beat them and P.J. Walker. I didn’t know who the hell that was until yesterday.”
These are quarterbacks who are backups and when you are an experienced vet like Tom, you cannot lose to them. It is just unacceptable. He lost to the Steelers 20-18. When was the last time the GOAT struggled to put up 2 points on the board? He was unable to get the offense going in the matchup against Carolina as they got beat 21-3. It was just punt after punt after punt.
Mike Evans dropped pass after pass and this was against a team that was on its third-string quarterback and had an interim coach leading their strategy. This Thursday, Brady and the Bucs face off against the Baltimore Ravens.
