The Washington Commanders have won three of the seven games so far this season. They don’t have a great overall roster and the team recently got new owners after Dan Snyder sold the team to a Josh Harris-led ownership group earlier this year. On the field, the Commanders haven’t been consistent enough and a lot of that has to do with their head coach Ron Rivera.
Rivera joined the team in 2020 and was expected to lead them to the promised land as he did with the Carolina Panthers in 2015. However, his tenure as the head coach of the Commanders hasn’t gone according to plan as the team has struggled mightily under him. ESPN analyst and face of the First Take show, Stephen A. Smith believes that Rivera won’t be the head coach of Washington next season.
I just have to say this, Ron Rivera, it was nice we appreciate you. It's over. You going home after this year. You will not be the head coach of this team next year. And Eric Bieniemy, you probably ain't going to be the coach either because you lost four of your last five, you struggling to score offensively.Stephen A. Continuing, Stephen A. Smith highlighted the alarming fact that Sam Howell had been sacked 40 times within only 7 weeks, underscoring the urgent need for changes to better protect the quarterback.
The Commanders, though, have still enough time to turn their season around. They are currently sitting third in their division and are only one win behind the Cowboys. It is highly unlikely that this team will have a midseason turnaround as their roster isn’t good enough. They will play their next game against the Philadelphia Eagles next Sunday.
Ron Rivera is focused on the Commanders’ ‘bounce back’ ability
The Washington Commanders lost their week 7 game against the New York Giants on Sunday. It was a dull game as both teams struggled to put up points. Eventually, the Giants won the game 14-7. Commanders’ HC Ron Rivera talked about the team’s loss after the game.
Rivera told the reporters:
To me, it’s really about how you bounce back than anything else. With ten games to go, you never know what’s going to happen. But you got to take then one at a time, you got to stay focused on it. We’ll correct these things, a lot of things that we can correct, a lot of things that we will get better at, and we’ll continue to work at it, and we’ll see what happens.
Rivera is on the hot seat after a tough start to the season.
The Commanders have been poor under his tutelage and have made the playoffs only once in four years. There was a change in ownership earlier this season and this is expected to be Rivera’s last year with the team if they fail to end the season on a high.
