Ever since the Green Bay Packers traded their franchise QB Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets, many people have been claiming that the 10-time Pro Bowl quarterback wouldn’t be able to handle the heat of the New York media. During a recent episode of the ESPN show First Take, Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo shared a similar take. But long-time NFL analyst Stephen A. Smith is fed up with that particular take.
“I believe Mad Dog Russo needs to be drug tested. . . That is the most asinine take that you have given since you have arrived here,” a frustrated Stephen A. Smith ranted. “New York’s got a lot going on. But if there was ever an individual that was in position to be a godlike figure in the world of sports, it would be Aaron Rodgers.”
“Because you got to take into account the purgatory that has been the New York Jets for ages. This dude pass gas, they’ll think it’s perfume. What are you talking about? It makes no sense, what you’re saying!”
Long-time NFL analyst Chris Russo claimed that Aaron Rodgers would be scrutinized by the New York media even before the game started, and that is going to drive the 39-year-old mad.
Smith countered that the media is not going to villainize one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game unless he starts to lose games in October. The two got into a heated argument over their take. In the end, both of them firmly stood by their opinions.
New York media will scrutinize Aaron Rodgers if he fails to make it to the postseason
It is a tough season ahead for the 39-year-old signal-caller Aaron Rodgers, who is looking to lead the Jets to their first postseason appearance in more than a decade.
The Jets have the longest playoff drought among any team in the top four major league sports in the United States. The last time the New York-based football team clinched a postseason spot was back in 2010.
However, in the last couple of years, the Jets have built a franchise that could compete for the Super Bowl. And they acquired the missing piece in the 2023 off-season since they roped in veteran QB Aaron Rodgers.
Now, in the upcoming Super Bowl, it is Super Bowl or bust for the 4-time league MVP QB. The Jets are now considered a playoff squad under Rodgers, and the tough New York media will obliterate him if he fails to end their playoff drought.
