The New England Patriots have had a terrible start to the season. The six-time Super Bowl champions have scored only 3 points in their last two games while allowing 72 points. The Pats failed to score a single point against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Due to these poor results, the pressure on head coach Bill Belichick has ramped up significantly.

Belichick is also the GM of the team. He has been the team’s GM since 2000. The Pats have won all their Super Bowl championships under Belichick. However, he has struggled as the team’s GM in recent years. ESPN analyst and one of the most popular sports pundits in the world, Stephen A. Smith feels like it is time for Belichick to focus solely on coaching.

“It has to be said so I’m going to say it: If I’m Robert Kraft, the owner of the New England Patriots, I call Bill Belichick, the six-time champion, into my office,” Smith said on his ESPN show First Take. “Here’s what I tell him: ‘You are no longer the GM, the football decision-maker for this franchise. You can coach, but that’s it. You’re not deciding personnel any longer.’ If Bill Belichick did not accept that, this would be Bill Belichick’s last season in New England.”

The Patriots have won only one game this season. They are 1-4 through five weeks and are pretty much out of playoff contention. The offense has struggled to put up points on a regular basis and the defense hasn’t looked great either. They will play the Las Vegas Raiders next Sunday at the Allegiant Stadium.

Bill Belichick ‘doing the best he can’ to help the New England Patriots

Bill Belichick is under pressure. He has been since Tom Brady left the New England Patriots at the start of the 2020 season and went on to win a Super Bowl with his new team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Since Brady’s departure, Belichick has struggled to lead the Pats to the playoffs. The team has started the 2023 season 1-4 and Belichick is trying his best to help his team.

“I’m gonna do the best I can to help our football team,” Belichick said on WEEI’s The Greg Hill Show. “That’s my job.” This is a particular phrase that the head coach is using a lot in recent times. It just doesn’t seem like he is actually doing a good job.

The Pats were blown away by the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. They will now play the Las Vegas Raiders in their next game. Belichick will hope to turn things around for his team as soon as possible.
