Damar Hamlin’s tragic injury has become a nation-wide issue as every big sports media company is talking about the incident. This caused people to come up with various assumptions and conclusions as to why the injury happened.
Hamlin collided with the Bengals receiver Tee Higgins and immediately hit the ground. However, the Bills DB got up and then passed out again, although, this time he wasn’t moving and was unresponsive.
The 24-year-old had suffered a cardiac arrest and was taken straight to the hospital after administering CPR. Fortunately, Hamlin pulled through and is currently showing remarkable recovery.
NFL analyst Bart Scott appeared on ESPN to talk about the incident and spoke about the crucial play in heavy detail. Scott directed some blame at the Bengals receiver for lowering his helmet when colliding with Hamlin. This wasn’t taken well by social media who blasted the NFL analyst for blaming Higgins and being insensitive.
However, Stephen A. Smith came to the defense of his ESPN colleague and tried to make an argument against what people were saying. Smith stated that Bart was just explaining the play, something he was asked to do, and had no intention to blame anyone.
“Let me look into the camera and tell these folks in America to ‘calm down’ as it pertains to Bart Scott,” Smith said on ESPN’s First Take. “People are walking around acting like Bart Scott, in his explanation of the play that ended up injuring Hamlin, that Bart Scott was alluding to Tee Higgins doing something like that on purpose. He did no such thing. That is not true. That is a lie. OK?
