The Super Bowl showdown between the Eagles’ and the Chiefs was one of the most controversial games of recent times. The game had many officiating calls that could have changed the outcome of the game. The Chiefs were eventually awarded the victory, and Patrick Mahomes cemented himself in the game’s history with this win.
However, there is still a conversation going on about the late controversial calls that took place during the game. Most specifically, the Eagles’ James Bradberry holding call that inspired many to call out the referees.
The Chiefs QB passed the ball towards their WR JuJu-Smith Schuster. As the WR was chasing the ball, Eagles CB Bradberry was running behind him, and he may or may not have caught his shirt. However, the referees gave a holding call penalty to Bradberry, resulting in changes in the momentum of the game.
ESPN analyst Smith also gave his take on the hot topic and had a definitive answer. “The call was the right call, there’s no disputing that, there was definitely holding, why we not refuting that,” Stephen A. Smith stated on the First Take.

Stephen A. Smith believes the holding call shouldn’t have mattered to the Eagles
Patrick Mahomes gave Chiefs the lead with the help of the holding call penalty and the possession was later handed to the Eagles. With Jalen Hurts on the ball and a minute left on the clock, the Eagles had the chance to either tie the game with a field goal or win it with a touchdown.
However, the Eagles failed to do it in the most important game of their season. Stephen A. Smith believes that the Eagles had all the chance to win the game and just started the blame game because they couldn’t win the game when they had the chance.
Jalen Hurts delivered a great performance throughout the game but failed to perform in the dying minutes when it mattered the most. Smith also pointed out that controversial calls by the referees are bound to happen in a game of a magnitude such as the Super Bowl. Therefore, one should prepare themselves to the utmost capability that the calls don’t even matter anymore.
