Shannon Sharpe was introduced to First Take this morning by Stephen A. Smith. It was a highly anticipated event since it was announced that Smith and Sharpe would be seen together debating on the ESPN network’s no. 1 show. Sharpe spent his last seven years appearing on the Fox Sports network’s show Undisputed, alongside Skip Bayless. It was reported that Sharpe will be leaving Undisputed after the 2023 NBA Finals.
Since that announcement, Sharpe has been constantly linked with First Take. Even Smith on his show, The Stephen A. Smith Show, also acknowledged that he would love to have Sharpe on First Take. All that came true this morning as Sharpe was introduced on First Take with Smith as they performed a little drill sergeant skit.
In the video, Sharpe was drilling Stephen A. Smith as he was standing in attention. After this bit, Smith looked at Sharpe and said, “I run this show. I don’t care what drill sergeant is, you heard me.” Smith went on to finish by saying, “This is a new day baby.” That’s some introduction!
Smith recently appeared on Sharpe’s podcast, Club Shay Shay, and talked about a lot of things. The podcast was part of the Fox Sports network, but now that Sharpe is on ESPN, the podcast has joined hands with Colin Cowherd’s podcast network, The Volume. Bayless on the other hand has a new team in Keyshawn Johnson, Richard Sherman, and Michael Irvin on Undisputed.
Shannon Sharpe accidentally calls Stephen A. Smith ‘Skip’
Shannon Sharpe and Stephen A. Smith appeared together on ESPN’s First Take for the first time this morning. There was a lot of excitement around this pairing when it was announced. Moreover, Sharpe was part of the Undisputed Show on Fox Sports with Skip Bayless for seven years before joining ESPN.
Meanwhile, on the first show of First Take with the new pairing Sharpe accidentally called Smith by the name of ‘Skip’ a couple of times. He quickly realized his mistake and corrected himself before continuing. Smith was not fazed by it and told Sharpe that it was ‘okay’ and to ‘keep going.’
Bayless and Sharpe first appeared together on the Undisputed show in 2016. The show was popular among sports fans for the debates and the chemistry between the hosts. After seven years of debating one person, it will take time for Sharpe to get used to his new surroundings and debate partner. It will be interesting to see how this pair performs after so much hype.
