Stephen A. Smith has chosen the Philadelphia Eagles as the potential winner of the NFC in the 2023–24 season. According to him, the conference is ‘severely depleted’, and when it wasn’t, the Eagles were still the best.

The veteran analyst has been a vocal supporter of the Eagles since anyone even kicked a single ball in the preseason. In the recent segment of ESPN First Take, Smith appeared to be absolutely positive that the Phillies franchise is the favorite as the teams around them have gradually become weaker.“I’m taking the Eagles,” Stephen A. said. “The NFC is significantly depleted. When it wasn’t, they were the best team in the NFC.”

He has a valid point. The Philadelphia Eagles dominated the NFC East, winning it with a 14-3 record. It was possible because of their quarterback, Jalen Hurts, who threw for a career-high 3701 yards in 15 games. “We know what their defense can do, particularly when it comes to getting to the quarterback,” Smith added. Jason Kelce leads the line alongside Pro Bowl-caliber left tackle Jordan Mailata, and Landon Dickonson is possibly one of the best guards in the league.

Then there’s the newest asset from Georgia, six-foot-314-pound Jalen Carter, who announced his arrival in style against the Ravens in the preseason by sacking quarterback Josh Johnson. Stephen A. Smith puts forth a good argument that the Eagles lost both coordinators. Jonathan Gannon and Shane Steichen were replaced by Sean Desai and Brian Johnson. However, they still have head coach Nick Siriani around, and he can repeat another deep postseason run.

What the Philadelphia Eagles achieved last season is truly commendable, but to repeat the same feat is harder said than done. But as Stephen A. Smith pointed out, the NFC is weaker compared to recent years, so the Eagles have a great chance to grasp it with both hands. FanDuel Sportsbook predicts that Nick Siriani and co. are the favorites to win the NFC East (+330). They are also favored to win 10 or more games (-340).

However, they have one of the toughest last couple of fixtures in the regular season. They will face the Kansas City Chiefs, the Buffalo Bills, the Dallas Cowboys, and the New York Giants twice.

As FOX Sports Craig Carton pointed out on his show, “That’s a tough schedule. They’re not going 14-3.” However, that will not change Stephen A. Smith’s mind.
