The Kansas City Chiefs continued their dream run in the NFL, winning their second Super Bowl title in four years. The Chiefs came up trumps against the NFC Champions, Philadelphia Eagles at the State Farm Stadium in Arizona by a 38-35 margin.
Chiefs have their MVP quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, to thank for their dream run who braved injury to put in a magnificent performance. The 27-year-old threw for 182 yards along with 3 touchdown passes to further establish his status as one of the best in the NFL.
The Chiefs did not have the best of starts, and found themselves with a 10-point deficit at the halftime mark. However, the second half went completely accordingly to the plan as they pulled off yet another trademark comeback.
The most talked about matchup ahead of the titular clash was of the Chiefs taking on the sturdy Eagles’ defense, who were in exceptional form throughout the season. Andy Reid‘s side aced the test, as they didn’t allow a single sack against their name. The veteran head coach showed his experience against his former franchise, to claim yet another Lombardi Trophy.
Stephen A. Smith complimented Patrick Mahomes on leading the way for the Chiefs despite his injury scare in the first half
The head coach and quarterback duo of Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid garnered huge praise from NFL analyst Stephen A. Smith. Speaking on First Take, Smith claimed that Andy Reid schooled Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni in the second half, which eventually had a big impact on the result.
Smith also heaped praise on Patrick Mahomes’ stellar performance, calling it more of a Chiefs comeback win rather than the Eagles bottling their 24-14 halftime lead.
“Definitely think it is a Chiefs comeback, gotta give credit where credit is due. Patrick Mahomes injured his ankle with less than 2 minutes left in the first half. They were down 24-14 at half. In the second half, it was a collective effort make no mistake about it. The Chiefs’ defense was able to neutralize the Philadelphia Eagles. I thought Jalen Hurts was playing phenomenal football with the exception that the one turnover… You look at the way Patrick Mahomes was playing,” Stephen A. Smith started off on the show.
“When you look at the play calling particularly with the whip route not one but two occasions, that Andy Reid call along with Eric Bieniemy. When you look at the Philadelphia Eagles and man to man coverage with clearly you should have been in the zone or whatever we point to a lot of things with any In the end, it comes down to Andy week being the superior coach to Nick Sirianni in the second half, and Patrick Mahomes being that superstar that he is.”
The Kansas City Chiefs are on their way to creating a dynasty of sorts in the AFC division and the head coach-quarterback duo of Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid is a big reason behind that.
