The Kansas City Chiefs led by their star quarterback Patrick Mahomes are currently one of the most dominant teams in the league. They have won 2 Super Bowls in the last 4 years and are looking to add more trophies to their resume in the future. Despite their success in the last few years, ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith believes the Chiefs aren’t a dynasty yet.

During the recent episode of the ESPN show First Take, the panel which consisted of Stephen A. Smith, Molly Qerim, Harry Douglas, and Kimberley Martin discussed whether the Chiefs are a dynasty yet. Smith had a clear answer to that question.

“No, they are not. They are great, they are phenomenal, they have got the greatest player in the game, Patrick Mahomes but. . .” said Smith. “Have the Chiefs won back-to-back Super Bowl titles yet? That answer would be no.”

Stephen A. Smith went on to imply that as long as the Chiefs don’t win Super Bowls in back-to-back years, they can’t be considered a dynasty despite their dominant run in the last few years.

“Ain’t no dynasty. If you can’t even win two in a row, we can’t do that,” said the renowned analyst. “At the end of the day, it’s about closing the deal when you are a dynasty and when you can’t even win back-to-back Super Bowls. We can anticipate based on their history that they’ll lose this year. All I’m saying is that if you win back-to-back Super Bowls then we can start having that discussion but until then no dynasty.”

Furthermore, Smith acknowledged that the Chiefs are a great team and have had a great run reaching five consecutive AFC Championship games and winning 2 Super Bowls. But the term Dynasty is reserved for teams who have managed to win at the very least consecutive Super Bowls.

Despite all of their achievements, the Chiefs have one knock: they haven’t won back-to-back Super Bowls in their run so far. But in the upcoming, they have a shot at defending their ring.

AFC is more loaded this year since the teams have made some great additions in the off-season. However, as long as the Chiefs have Mahomes, they will be competing for the Super Bowl.

The Chiefs 2023 campaign will start with a tough home game against the Detroit Lions on September 7. Mahomes and the Kansas City-based franchise will look to set the tone for the rest of the season with a dominant win against the Lions.
