The Los Angeles Rams’ rookie quarterback Stetson Bennett got a lot of playing time this preseason. However, in the three games he has played, Bennett has thrown three interceptions. He hasn’t been great to the start of the season and Rams fans are understandably frustrated by their quarterback.

In their blowout loss to the Denver Broncos last night, Bennett threw two of his three interceptions in just 9 pass attempts. One of his interceptions came in the first quarter when he threw into double coverage. That play had fans scratching their heads and questioning his decision-making. Twitter (now X) was blowing up with fans showing their frustration.

In three games, Bennett has completed 36 of his 62 pass attempts for 347 yards, 1 touchdown, and 3 interceptions. Not a great start for someone looking to make an early mark in the NFL and put some pressure on the Rams’ starting QB Matthew Stafford.

Bennett played college football till he was 25. He played in college for six years and fans on social media were quick to speculate the reason for his long college stint.

The Rams drafted Bennett in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. In his last college game, he threw for 6 TD passes and won the National title with the Georgia Bulldogs. The start to his NFL career has not gone according to plan for him so far. He might not get a chance to play this season as long as Stafford is healthy. All Bennett will have to do now is keep his head down and work hard.

Will the Rams replace Stetson Bennett after his preseason struggles?

Stetson Bennett’s struggles are real. The rookie quarterback got a lot of snaps this preseason but has failed to make any impact. After a horrible outing against the Denver Broncos last night, it has created doubt that Bennett is not ready yet for NFL football. Bennett will back up starting QB Matthew Stafford for this season so he has time to get comfortable with the NFL, but if Stafford goes down with an injury early in the season, the Los Angeles Rams will have to cope with a struggling Bennett and that will be a disastrous season for the Rams.

Bennett played in college for six years, where he won two national titles, but has struggled to adjust to the NFL. After winning the Super Bowl in 2021, the Rams had a losing season last year as the hangover of the Super Bowl win was clearly visible. Injuries to key players meant that the Rams finished with a 5-12 record.

The question now is how long will the Rams go with Bennett as their backup. Will they give him enough rope or snatch it the first opportunity they get? It will be very interesting to follow this during the season. The Rams open their season against the Seattle Seahawks on September 10.
