The San Francisco 49ers had a great regular season and won the NFC Championship game. They will play the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. The team made it back to the Super Bowl after four years. 49ers DC Steve Wilks made a startling criticism about his team ahead of the Super Bowl.

Despite all the heroics that the team showed on the turf, the DC complained about the defense. The game against the Lions remains the most recent one. The 49ers had a bad first half. They gave away 24 points in the first half. The game is finished if they give away that many points against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.

Steve Wilks opened up on the performance of the defense. He claimed it was unacceptable and pointed out that they already had some conversations regarding the defensive gameplay. This is what Wilks said:

Collectively as a team, I can tell you as a defense it's unacceptable. Alright. We talked about that. I wish I could tell these guys on play four, on play 27, this is what's going to happen. You don't know.... And you could see on those particular plays, it wasn't to our standard. Those guys understand and know that and, quite honestly, it was embarrassing.

Adding more fuel to it, the DC noted that the team created some embarrassing situations in the first half. However, he also acknowledged that they should remain cautious so these things would not appear in the coming game.

In the last two years, only the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, led by Tom Brady, scored over 30 points in the regular season. They have performed well against the big shots. From the regular season to the postseason, the defense showed tremendous perseverance.
