The Dallas Cowboys kicker Brett Maher is having a horrible couple of weeks during their postseason run this season. Just last week, the kicker missed five consecutive extra point attempts and got crucified on social media for it and now in the divisional round against the 49ers he has his first extra point attempt blocked by Niners LB Samson Ebukam.
Before the game, the struggling Brett Maher was actually working on his kick routine to get it better, but his warmup was disrupted by the 49ers players who took offense because Maher was practicing his kicks on the Niners’ side of the field. However, the Cowboys special teams coordinator John Fassel and the long-snapper Jake McQuaide came to the aid of their kicker and cleared the space for him.
“A little drama in Cowboys-49ers pregame: Niners apparently took offense to Cowboys kicker Brett Maher warming up on side of field, stepping in middle of his operation to interrupt drill. Niners eventually allowed Maher to resume kicking. He made next try,” an insider tweeted about the incident.
In the end, the Niners resorted and allowed the kicker to continue practicing his kicks and the kicker would get his reps. However, according to the reports, he actually missed a lot of practice kicks which could be a big trouble for the Cowboys in this decisive game.
Jerry Jones consoles the Cowboys’ kicker

Per reports, the Cowboys kicker Brett Maher missed a fair share of his kicks during his warmups including the one he attempted from 43 yards. And after making a couple of kicks in a row, he again missed some field goal kicks.
Later during his practice session, the Cowboys owner Jerry Jones got down to the field to meet up with his kicker Brett Maher and holder Bryan Anger. Furthermore, Jones also chatted with the 49ers kicker Robbie Gould.
Jones, reportedly put his arm around the shoulder of Brett Maher to console him on account of his missed kicks and chatted with him and anger for about 30 seconds, before the pair resumed their practice session.
The Cowboys have a “night-Maher” problem and it really showed during the first half when the Cowboys decided to go for it on 4th down instead of kicking it. The kicker also got his first extra point blocked, however, it looked like the extra point attempt wouldn’t have been good if it wasn’t blocked.
