It’s hard to be a fan of a New York team, although the city is one of the best in the world, unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the city in matters of sports. The New York Giants and Jets are not the best teams in the entire league, well they are considered to be at the bottom of the pack in terms of rankings around the league. It is understandable that the Giants and Jets fans are depressed because neither of the teams has been relevant in a long long time.
However, imagine being so let-down and mad at the team that represents your city, you end up suing your own team. The fans who are suing the New York-based football teams seem to rather not have an NFL team named after the city rather than to have them and be let down on a yearly basis.
The Jets and Giants have been accused of false advertising and following deceptive practices:

As per the New York Post, a pair of fans from the New York area have amended their $ billion lawsuit against the Giants and the Jets. The lawsuit demands that they drop the “New York” from their names given that they are based in New Jersey. As per the original lawsuit that was filed in January, the fans demanded that both teams have to return to playing in New York by 2025 but it has now been revised.
In their lawsuit, the duo seeks $2 billion in monetary damages and $4 billion in punitive damages claiming false advertising and accusing the teams of indulging in deceptive practices. One of the plaintiffs describes himself as an “avid football fan.” He claims that he was shocked to learn that the Giants played and operate in East Rutherford, New Jersey when he purchased tickets.
The case-action lawsuit seeks to represent all fans who have attended any games at MetLife Stadium since 2016. The New York Giants or the Jets have not given the lawsuit any merit, even the league office has filed papers for dismissal. They insisted that the use of New York in team names does not amount to misleading of any sort.
MetLife Stadium is located just seven miles away from Manhattan and falls under the 75-mile radius that covers NFL teams’ territory rights. “These claims are calculated to score points in the headlines, not the courtroom,” the lawyers representing the parties involved stated.
The New York Giants played at the Yankee Stadium during the 1950s and 1960s when they were relevant and the team moved to East Rutherford in 1976 to the newly-constructed Giants Stadium. The Jets became tenants of the Giants Stadium in 1984, and both the teams have shared MetLife Stadium since 2010.
