“Super Bowl spillover” Bengals and the Rams engage in a deadly brawl during a joint practice session

The Cincinnati Bengals and the LA Rams ended their joint practice early on Thursday as things got ugly due to a vicious brawl that took place. Both the teams had faced each other last season during the Super Bowl where the Bengals had to taste defeat.

The fight broke out between Bengals first team offense and Rams first team defense. Surprisingly no player was harmed during the scuffle before both the coaches put a halt to the practice session.

The scuffle started when a Rams defender engaged with the Bengals right tackle Collins. The defender grabbed Collins and this led to the snowball effect of many players getting involved.

“It got a little scuffley, and so we just called it,” Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said. “We were in the last period. We got two really good days of work in. Was it worth getting the extra couple of plays? No. So we called it off. We got two good days of work in and we’ll go play on Saturday.”

Zac Taylor declined to get into the specifics of what happened. “I won’t get into what happened, it’s over, we got two days of work in and everybody’s healthy,” Taylor said.

“I think in some instances teams defending each other”: Rams coach Sean McVay commented regarding the scuffle that took place in practice

After the Rams defender grabbed Collins. The Bengals Right tackle started throwing punches this led to a massive brawl that incited everyone else on the field to fight. Many players were throwing their helmets at each other and risking major injury. This led to the coaches getting involved and the practice was put to a halt imminently.

Rams head coach Sean McVay was not entirely sure what caused the fight. “I think in some instances teams defending each other,” McVay said. “Fortunately, my understanding is nobody got hurt and we’ll move on from it. Not going to make a bigger deal than what it is. Not going to look at pointing fingers.”

The NFL have a long-held stance regarding joint practices that the league is not responsible for imposing discipline on the players and the respective teams have to take care of the conduct of the players. So if there is any punishment involved for the people inciting the fight then the teams will have to take a decision themselves, in this case, Bengals and Rams.

The joint practice was ended permanently but the teams will face each other again in Saturday’s preseason finale.
