The Super Bowl LVIII became the most-watched show in US television history since the moon landing in 1969, thanks in part to Taylor Swift‘s appearance. Based on CBS’s Nielsen ratings, approximately 123.4 million people watched the Kansas City Chiefs defeat the San Francisco 49ers on television and streaming services. There were estimated to be up to 150 million viewers in the US for the Apollo 11 moon landing.
A record 202.4 million viewers across all networks saw at least some of the game, according to Nielsen. Those who watched in establishments like bars are not included in the data. High ratings were guaranteed, with the Chiefs defending their championship title and Usher performing the half-time show with a plethora of guest appearances.
Swift celebrated a thrilling victory for her boyfriend’s team, the Kansas City Chiefs, as she was filmed drinking a beer during the game. The singer was shown on Allegiant Stadium’s massive screens multiple times, and when the cameras caught her emerging victorious in what looked like a beer-guzzling competition, the audience cheered.
Usher, on the other hand, performed a halftime show that featured multiple guest appearances and amazing choreography. Alicia Keys, Jermaine Dupri, Lil Jon, Ludacris, and HER were among the guests who joined him for a 13-minute set.
On the field, the game itself was a fantastic show. Both, the Niners and the Chiefs played great football as the game went to overtime. It was only the second Super Bowl in NFL history to go into overtime. The Chiefs came away with a narrow 22-25 win to win their second straight Super Bowl.
Fans credit Taylor Swift for Super Bowl’s record-breaking viewership
The Super Bowl LVIII extravaganza in Las Vegas featured Alicia Keys, Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes, and Usher, setting a record for the NFL’s most-watched broadcast. A record-breaking 123.4 million people watched the Super Bowl on average.
The mark was so high that it was close to the most-watched television event in American history, which was the moon landing of Apollo 11 in 1969, when between 125 and 150 million people tuned in to watch the space race.
Over 202 million people watched the Kansas City Chiefs defeat the San Francisco 49ers 25–22 in overtime at Allegiant Stadium, as Mahomes and Kelce helped the team win another Super Bowl. Fans on social media credited Swift for the Super Bowl’s high viewership. Here are some of the reactions.
Early on, San Francisco was ahead 10-0, but Kansas City rallied as the 49ers continued to make errors. In overtime, Mahomes took over as San Francisco made a crucial error in understanding the rules. In the end, Kansas City established a dynasty, Mahomes garnered comparisons to Michael Jordan, and the NFL created history by producing a game with TV ratings that nearly reached lunar levels.
