WATCH: ‘Upset’ Taylor Swift awkwardly sips her drink on Jo Koy’s controversial NFL joke about her at the Golden Globes
Jo Koy took a jab at a section of football fans' unhappiness with the NFL showing too much of Taylor Swift during game days.

Now it all makes sense why Taylor Swift wasn’t at SoFI Stadium to cheer for Travis Kelce, even though she traveled to Los Angeles on Sunday night. The 12-time Grammy winner was attending the 81st edition of the Golden Globes at the Beverly Hills Hotel, half an hour away.
To be fair, she did not need to be at the stadium where the Kansas City Chiefs played against their AFC West rivals, the Los Angeles Chargers. Well, the reason behind that is because Kelce wasn’t playing. He did travel with the team like the professional he is.

Despite the distance from the football field, the jokes surrounding the game did not leave her alone, even inside the award venue. The host of the ceremony for 2024 was stand-up comedian Joseph Glenn Herbert Sr., better known by his stage name Jo Koy.
If the 34-year-old knew what was said about his girlfriend at the Golden Globes, he probably would have jumped onto the first car he saw, driven straight to the venue, and started shouting. But why would he do that?
Koy was trying his best to keep the esteemed guests entertained. Yet, after a quick glance around the room, his jokes did little to tickle the funny bones of the audience. Yet one of them defiantly raised their attention. It was on Swift, or, to phrase it properly, the retort was about the pop icon’s frequent visits to football games this season to cheer for Kelce.
Koy said,
The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes, we had fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift.
The ‘Cruel Summer’ songstress tried her best to ignore the snarky remark by taking a sip from her wine.
Taylor Swift ignored Jo Koy’s dig towards her
Koy was just at the wrong place at the wrong time; at least his joke was. While it did bring out a few ‘oohs’ from people sitting around Taylor Swift, largely the joke fell flat.
Suppose he had said that in front of many football fans who are a bit tired of seeing the 34-year-old at ball games, he might have brought out a laugh. At this point, people have gotten used to her being theirs, especially the Chiefs fandom, which considers Swift to be part of their family.

Maybe the outcome would have been different if it had been said by the regular Globe host, Ricky Gervais. That’s one individual who could deliver a backhanded comment, and people would laugh their socks off.
Nevertheless, the Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce relationship is here to stay, and the NFL loves it. Kelce, previously on his podcast New Heights, said,
I think it’s fun when they show who was at the game—it brings a little bit more to the atmosphere. But at the same time, I think they're overdoing it a little bit, for sure, especially in my situation. I think they’re just trying to have fun with it.
Even Swift addressed the situation in an interview with Time Magazine. She said,
I don’t know how they know what suite I’m in. There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away. I’m just there to support Travis. I have no awareness if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.
Well, that’s the spirit. Sticking together in the face of adversity. At times like this, a song from Swift comes to mind. Shake it off.
