Joe Burrow is currently negotiating his second contract in the league with the Cincinnati Bengals. The contract is expected to make him the highest-paid NFL player of all time in regards to average annual salary. Although some reports suggest that the Pro Bowl quarterback might take less money so that his franchise would be able to keep his teammates Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.
During a recent press conference, the 26-year-old quarterback Joe Burrow claimed that he knows what kind of contract he wants and the Cincinnati-based football team is working to get the deal done. The talented quarterback also said that he would like to keep the negotiations private until he signs the contract extension.
After a couple of record-breaking contract extension signings in the 2023 off-season by Jalen Hurts and Lamar Jackson, the Bengals signal-caller Joe Burrow, the Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert, and the Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa are next in line for big-money deals. However, it seems like Burrow will be taking the Tom Brady approach of signing fewer money deals to keep his explosive weapons and good friends Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins around him for a long time.
And now, the Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins who is entering the final year of his rookie deal, has shown his appreciation for Joe Burrow remembering his teammates while negotiating his contract extension.
Bengals WR Tee Higgins dubs Joe Burrow a leader
The former Comeback Player of the Year award winner Joe Burrow wants to enjoy the benefits of having two of the best pass catchers in the league in his receiving corps. He reportedly advocated for the Bengals to sign Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins to long-term deals. The Pro Bowl receiver Higgins is touched by the gesture.
“Means a lot having a leader like him looking out for guys like us,” Higgins said, via Paul Dehner of TheAthletic.com. “Obviously we talk about staying together for the long run. Hopefully, we can do that and get something negotiated to where they can keep all three of us.”
As previously stated, the 24-year-old wide receiver Tee Higgins is entering the final season of his rookie contract with the Bengals. The Cincinnati-based franchise would certainly prioritize keeping Burrow’s number 1 target Chase instead of Higgins.
If Higgins and the Bengals cannot come to a middle ground in a contract extension, the 2023 season might be the last time, the league will get to witness the explosive trio of Burrow, Chase, and Higgins.
