CJ Stroud quite possibly hit the best celebration of the NFL this season, apart from maybe Zay Flowers later on in the night. But more importantly, it was nice to see a ‘Baby Boy’ reference on the football field.

Clearly, the Houston Texans quarterback has brushed up on his movie skills. Although he was born after the 2001 cult classic starring Snoop Dogg, the influence on the celebration was for everyone to witness.

Trailing by 7 at the beginning of the 3rd quarter, the Texans had the chance to reduce the deficit. As the clock neared the 8-minute mark on the 3rd and goal, Stroud took the snap and paused for a few seconds, scanning the endzone for teammates to throw the pass. Eventually, he decided to run it himself and scored a rushing touchdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Then he gathered some Houston players and lined them up as if it were a firing squad. It did puzzle the spectators inside NRG Stadium, but also got them excited. They too wanted to know what was up with the elaborate setup. They knew something was coming.

Fans were up for a surprise as Stroud threw an air punch at one of the players. It was offensive lineman George Fant who got the memo, and as if he were hit by a real punch, he fell down on the ground in a dramatic fashion.

It was a reenactment of a scene from ‘Baby Boy’ in which Jordi played Tyrese Gibson and lined up a couple of his enemies at a park like Stroud did. Jordi (Gibson) took turns yelling at everyone and then slapped one of them without any warning.

Funny enough, the Texans X account quoted Jordi’s most famous line from the movie while sharing Stroud’s celebration. They captioned it, “Don’t call my house any more!”

Jacksonville managed to hang on to the lead despite a late charge by the Texans. A Nico Collins TD with 5 minutes remaining in the game closed the gap to make it a one-play game. However, the Jaguars held on for a 24-21 victory to take it back to South Beach.

At the start of the season, the AFC South was considered one of the weakest conferences in the NFL. Two of the four teams were fielding their rookie quarterbacks. The Indianapolis Colts had Anthony Richardson (later injured and replaced by Gardner Minshew). CJ Stroud was the other one, and the only team left was the Tennessee Titans, who switched to their rookie quarterback Will Levis after Ryan Tannehill suffered a knock.

Jaguars Trevor Lawerence, even though he has two years of experience in the NFL, can still be considered a relative newcomer. Yet all these players have peaked at some point, and Lawrence and Stroud are undeniably the picks of the bunch.

With the former Clemson Tigers man at the helm of the Jacksonville Jaguars, they are currently the third seed in the AFC with eight wins and three losses from their 11 games. Stroud, on the other hand, is having the offensive rookie of the year-level season.

The 22-year-old has already broken the rookie record for throwing most passes in a game (470). Not only that, he tied for the most passing touchdowns by a freshman in the NFL in a game (5). He also went the first five games of his career without throwing a single interception, which is also a rookie record.

Even though Lawerence doesn’t want the conference to be good, the implications say otherwise. Well, at least he took revenge for the early-season loss to Houston.
