Only three weeks remain until the NFL Draft and one of the biggest prospects, T’Vondre Sweat, has landed himself in trouble. The Texas Longhorns defensive lineman was arrested on DWI charges.
Sweat, who won the 2023 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and Outland Trophy, was detained at Travis County Jail in Austin on Sunday afternoon. Austin Police then arrested the 22-year-old for misdemeanor charges.
The police later revealed that Sweat was driving after consuming intoxicating substances. Per Texas law, a Class B misdemeanor that Sweat is supposed to face can send him behind bars for 180 days/3 months. Additionally, they would have to pay a $2,000 fine.

KXAN reported that Sweat’s attorney helped him get bail soon after the arrest. This happened when the NFL draft was around the corner. ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. projected that Sweat would be the No. 3 defensive lineman off the board in the draft.

However, the arrest may affect his draft potential. After the news became public knowledge, football fans had some interesting takes on which team might sign Sweat.
T’Vondre Sweat is the brother of Philadelphia Eagles pass rusher Josh Sweat. The 6-foot-4, 362-pound IOL played five seasons with the Longhorns. In 62 games, he has recorded 128 tackles, 5 touchdowns, and 14 pass deflections.
Last season, he led Texas College to the college football playoffs after a gap of two seasons. He recorded eight tackles for loss, seven quarterback hurries, and four pass breakups.
The Texans defense also had Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year Byron Murphy II. Together with Sweat, Murphy topped several categories. They were fourth in holding opponents to 80.9 rushing yards per game, second at 26.5 percent on third-down conversions, and tied for fourth in red zone defense.
