“Painful and difficult”: Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen release official statements confirming their divorce
It’s official. Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen have ended their 13-year marriage. The couple has been dealing with their marital issues for the past few months and, as is the case with high-profile celebrities, nothing stays under wraps. The news about their marital issues became public in no time. We saw rumors and speculations, citing the reason for their struggles go viral.
Gisele Bündchen made up her mind that she wants to get a divorce and true to her word, she was the one who filed the papers in the state of Florida on Friday morning as per TMZ. Tom will not be contesting her plea. Earlier this month, news had broken out that both the stars had retained divorce lawyers, which was the first indicator that their marriage was beyond any repair.
Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen have agreed to split amicably:
Just hours after Gisele filed the papers, Tom Brady announced it first on his Instagram via a story. In the post, he painfully announces the decision that the couple has arrived at and dubs it to be one that they both made “amicably.” He goes on to add that they will continue to stay on good terms and will be co-parenting their two children.
“We arrived at this decision to end our marriage after much consideration,” Brady mentions in the post. It took them months of going back and forth and attempting to reach common ground, one that both Tom and Gisele would feel comfortable accepting. However, the Super Model had reached her tipping point. She was no longer having it as she has kept it no secret that she wanted Tom to retire 5 years ago but continued to give in to his requests of returning to the field.
Tom calls the decision a “painful and difficult one to make” and that irrespective of how things may have ended, he will always “wish only the best for” Gisele in all her future endeavors. Bündchen posted her own statement in which she echoed Brady’s sentiments and called the split an amicable one. However, she did mention something interesting, “We have grown apart,” hinting that due to Tom’s hectic schedule, things had changed a lot between them.
She was no longer feeling valued and her wish has always been that the quarterback spends more time with his family, especially his kids in particular. For a competitor like Tom Brady, that is a lot to ask, as once the NFL season kicks off, he has this tunnel vision where everything off the field does not hold as much weight as winning games does.
Their divorce does raise an interesting ‘What if?’ scenario. If Tom Brady had never unretired, would he still have his family intact? In all likelihood, the answer is yes, but at the same time, we do not know what the full picture really is.
The seven-time Super Bowl champ has had to endure the most challenging year of his 23-year-long career at age 45. His decision to come back does not look good. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 3-5, Tom just lost three straight games for the first time in his career, he is two games under .500 after a really long time, and he is also the most sacked quarterback in league history. All of these are records that no athlete would want to have their names associated with.
The news of their divorce being official does add some context to reports of Tom Brady sitting in his locker room, still in his uniform with all his pads after the painful loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Football has been his escape throughout his life and for the first time, he is failing at the one thing that he has always been good at doing and succeeded at. Tom Brady’s father was also in attendance for that game.
Such an incident does take its toll on a person’s mind, irrespective of how mentally strong they are. Will Tom Brady bounce back from this? If there is one thing that he has taught us, it is to never count him out, so it is a possibility. However, with the team’s bye week approaching, he does get some much-needed time off to sit and think about the future.
