The New England Patriots‘ QB situation is weird, to say the least. They don’t have a backup QB in the building, and Mac Jones remains as the only QB in the team. There were conspiracy theories about former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady unretiring and returning to Foxboro….to back up Jones? That will provide a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle.

These are only theories, though and Brady, in a Lays/Pepsi commercial, called the unretirement decision as “dumb.” He played his last snap in the NFL earlier this year against the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card round. They lost the game 31-14. Since then, Brady seems to have enjoyed retirement, and the Patriots will hope to turn their fate from last season.

In the commercial, Tom Brady hung out with Patriots teammate and WR Julian Edelman. He said, “Unretirement? Who’d be dumb enough to do that?.” The smile at the end remains open to a lot of interpretation. For everyone involved, it would be great if fiction did not turn into a reality.

The Patriots recently released both their backup QBs, Bailey Zappe and Malik Cunningham. They are now left with only Jones in the QB room. There is a chance that they will resign either Zappe or Cunningham. They will have to make a decision before the start of the season. The Patriots open their season against the reigning NFC Champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, on September 10.

The New England Patriots, on the roster cut deadline, made an interesting move. They released both their backup QBs, Bailey Zappe and Malik Cunningham, and are now left with starter Mac Jones as their only option. The season is about to kick off, and the Patriots will need to do something about their QB situation.

Dianna Russini of The Athletic expects them to bring back Zappe to the squad. She tweeted about the situation, “The Patriots are planning for their backup QB to be Bailey Zappe if he clears waivers and makes it to practice squad.” Zappe played in four games last season, splitting them 2-2. Letting go of Zappe was surprising, but the Patriots hope to bring him back as soon as possible.

Zappe did not have a good finish to this year’s preseason, as he fumbled the ball three times against the Tennessee Titans in the preseason finale. The Patriots hope to get better production from him if they bring him back for this season. They play the Philadelphia Eagles in week 1.
