The Greatest of All Time debate is one that is inevitable across all sports. In basketball fans are constantly divided about who the best player is among Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James. In football, the GOAT debate has been pretty unanimous with the majority of fans in agreement that Tom Brady is the greatest QB to ever do it. However, after Patrick Mahomes led the Kansas City Chiefs to their 4th Super Bowl appearance in six years, his name is being thrown around in the GOAT debate.

Tom Brady appeared on The Pat McAfee Show and gave a life update to fans, he also addressed the GOAT comparisons between him and Patrick Mahomes. Here’s what the seven-time Super Bowl winner had to say:

I think that there's nothing that Patrick can do in my opinion that takes away from what I tried to accomplish in my career and there's nothing that I did will take away from what he's trying to accomplish.

Tom Brady’s point effectively put an end to the existence of debates to determine who is the greatest player in a particular sport. He believes that each player is different and so are their achievements. Thereby, even if Mahomes does go on to beat Brady in Super Bowl appearances and victories by the end of his career, it would not impact Brady’s legacy because he got there first. By no means does it diminish his accomplishments in the NFL.

Tom Brady is not losing sleep over the possibility of Patrick Mahomes winning more Super Bowls than him

While Brady is looked at as the greatest QB of all time, he pointed out that his idols such as Steve Young, Dan Marino, and John Elway are all respected and considered legends belonging to their own class even to date. By no means is it easy to achieve what they managed to achieve in football and they did so by going the extra mile and devoting their entire life to the game.

The quarterback stated:

I feel like I tried to be the best I could be and even though I had sporting idols, I could never be Steve Young, I could never be Dan Marino or John Elway, these were my childhood idols and they had incredible careers and they put as much as they could into their career and I really respect them for that and I just tried to do that.

Tom Brady further stated that even if Patrick Mahomes does manage to win 7 Super Bowls or more like him, he will not harbor any ill-will towards him because he understands how impressive of a feat that is to achieve. Speaking about the same Brady said:

Believe me, if anybody can go out there and win seven Super Bowls, I have so much respect for them. I understand how difficult it is, I will congratulate them and I'm going to give whatever it is a big hug.

The former NFL quarterback spoke to one of his friends on the Chiefs’ and made it a point to ask him to congratulate Patrick Mahomes for him after the QB led the team to a win over the Baltimore Ravens. It is nothing but mutual respect between these two and that is worth acknowledging considering how competitive of a person the quarterback was when he was playing in the NFL.
