There’s a saying: ‘When you are at the top, you are alone.’ That’s true for any field, especially sports where people only remember the victor. It takes a lot of determination to stay at the top, and not only that, it creates a lot of enemies. The same goes for Tom Brady, who won seven Super Bowl games as a football player.
But it wasn’t easy. Every year, the challenge is different. Even the same team and the same players act differently. What separates the winners from the average athlete is their tenacity and never-die attitude. To them, each game is the Super Bowl. Brady had the same tendency while on the field. The relentless pursuit of glory is what drove him to greatness. In a recent one-on-one interview, he revealed some of the secrets that are now known as the ‘Brady Mode’ (winners mentality), as Shedeur Sanders would call it.
“You’ve got to create a lot of different emotions to heighten your sense of awareness and focus,” Brady told host Patrick Bet-David at the Vault Conference. “For me, anger was good. Anger was good because it was motivating. The more I could create an enemy, the more I wanted to go out and kill those guys.”
Well, the 46-year-old is not implying that he would go and physically harm his opponents. Rather, as an athlete (which he constantly reminded the audience he wasn’t much of), players should focus only on winning and nothing else. Forget about the world and just keep an eye on the prize.
Tom Brady cites Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods as examples that he thinks had the killer instinct
Football has changed with time, and so have other sports as well. Unlike in the 1970s and 1980s, when the game was more intense, the current generation of players receive more protection. Not only that, but the thought process back in the day was very different compared to the present. However, one aspect still remains the same to this day, and that is the killer instinct. As per Tom Brady, only the best of the best possess the trait, which creates a lot of adversaries.

“I didn’t have any friends on the other teams,” Brady said. “My friends were the guys who were in the battle with me. It’s very different in today’s age. Everyone’s friends now; in sports all the time, and I don’t get that. It’s just not my thing.”
He put the names of Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods in front of everyone as examples. “There wasn’t a smiley face with me out there. There wasn’t a smiley face with Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, or Kobe Bryant.”
The former New England Patriots quarterback describes Woods as only being friends with golfers who were inferior in skill. “Tiger had no friends,” he added. “Tiger friends were those guys that he knew he could kick their b*tt. He had them right where he wanted them.”
Brady understood that early on. According to him, during game day, he was nothing else besides the team’s quarterback. He would forget about what’s happening outside of the stadium. It definitely helped the soon-to-be Patriots Hall of Famer achieve all those rings.
