Ryan Mallett died in a drowning accident in Gulf Shore Drive, Destin in Florida on Tuesday. As reported by the Sherrif’s department, Mallett saw a group of individuals drowning in the waters and jumped in to save them. Unfortunately, he was stuck on a sandbar and despite repeated attempts to make it back to the surface, Mallett remained unsuccessful. The 35-year-old was not breathing when the lifeguards pulled him out of the water. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

The New England Patriots selected Ryan Mallett in the third round of the 2011 NFL draft. He played in Foxboro as a backup to Tom Brady and was traded to the Houston Texans in 2014. After one season with the Texans, Mallett went on to play for the Baltimore Ravens and ended his professional football career in 2017.

In his NFL career, Ryan Mallett had 190 completions and threw for 1835 yards, 9 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. Recently, he was serving as head coach of White Hall High in Arkansas. “It’s just natural for me. I understand it. I get how everything works, and then I just love football. You get to teach kids the right way at a young age, and that’s something I really enjoy,” Mallett said on his appointment as the head coach of the high school team.
