The upcoming NFL season will be a long one for Tom Brady and likely to be his hardest to date. The quarterback will not have any issues come game time but his mind may not entirely be in it as the rumors of Tom and Gisele Bundchen having gotten into a “serious” disagreement over the athlete’s decision to un-retire from the NFL and play yet another season despite her strictly opposing it are gaining more and more traction by the day.
Tom Brady is in a rough spot, but Gisele Bundchen appears to no longer be in any mood to understand his perspective as she has made it evident. “It’s either football or me.” With just a day to go before the 2022 NFL season begins, Tom’s hunt for yet another Lombardi trophy with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers may have become more challenging than it already was as the quarterback’s personal life continues to fall apart.
“She wanted him to quit six years ago”: Gisele Bundchen has been pestering Tom Brady to retire from the NFL for the past six years on a daily basis.
Tom Brady’s bizarre offseason also adds fuel to the rumors of unease between Gisele and him. Think about this, the Brady we knew before, irrespective of having a losing season or having won a Super Bowl always made it clear to the media that he was going to be returning for the subsequent season. But this year, it was different, Tom Brady was visibly conflicted when asked about his NFL future following the 2021 playoff upset to the Rams.
But Brady retired and that must have been the day Gisele Bundchen had been waiting to witness for the better half of the past decade. If Tom had walked away or not, it would have no impact on his legacy, unless he wins the Super Bowl this year but it will be a while before we get there. The element of having to retire after playing some of the best football at age 44 bugged Tom and it was something he really did not wish to do. After he announced that he was unretiring, it was evident that the initial decision to walk away was clearly influenced by Gisele.
The duo’s marriage had reached a breaking point, at certain points of Brady’s career, Gisele told Tom that she was ready to walk unless he walked away from football. “She was on his case when he was still playing for the Patriots,” a source claims. The source goes on to add that after this season, Gisele made it crystal clear, it was either going to be her and the kids or just football, and Tom had to choose.
“Gisele laid down the terms: It’s me or football. She’d been asking him to quit for six years almost daily. Tom would say one thing and then do another. He was indecisive about leaving. Gisele wore him down to the point where he finally understood her reasoning“ the source concludes.
Gisele Bundchen reportedly left the couple’s Florida residence to take an unexpected and rather last-minute trip to Costa Rica. A close friend with knowledge of the matter stated that the two are not on good terms, “Tom and Gisele are in a fight right now, there’s been trouble in the marriage over his decision to un-retire. Gisele has always been the one with the kids. They had agreed he would retire to focus on the family, then he changed his mind.”
Gisele has returned to Miami but she is not staying home, she has been spending time elsewhere attempting to figure things out. Tom Brady may be one of the fiercest competitors but he too has struggled for years on the end to maintain a healthy work-life balance. His supermodel wife wishes that he would get more involved in the lives of his kids as she has been the only one to tend to their needs and be there for them as Brady’s schedule is hectic.
His recent absence from the team is starting to make more sense now, Brady did look rather emotionally spent at the press conference following his 11-day hiatus and we cannot rule out the possibility that the couple attempted to set things straight and give it another go. Considering Gisele wanted Tom to retire 6 years ago, it is going to be hard to see her ease up on him now as she seems to have reached her breaking point.
Both their perspectives are valid, it is risky for Tom, a 45-year-old athlete, to play in the NFL, sure we can argue that quarterbacks are practically untouchable now but football is an uncertain sport and Gisele wants her man to return safely so the duo can enjoy retirement while Brady knows his career is nothing short of an anomaly and that if he were to walk away from football after having a season where he almost won the MVP, that is something which would constantly eat at him for the remainder of his life.
