“Man what your a** doing there”: Tom Brady made the Buccaneers resign Leonard Fournette the moment he got to know the RB was considering joining the Patriots

Leonard Fournette and tom Brady
Tom Brady is at a point in his career where he can get whatever he wants, off the field and on the field. His team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have given him enough leeway to select the ideal squad that he wants to play with. When he was in the New England Patriots, it was all about Coach Belichick, he put the roster together, and Tom could give his opinions but at the end of the day, Bill Belichick had the last say.
In Tampa Bay, things are much different. Tom is LeBron 2.0 in the sense that he is the GM of the team indirectly. Recently, Leonard Fournette’s contract with the Bucs came to an end and the team was hesitant on extending him so Lenny was exploring his options. He went to meet with the New England Patriots and of course, Tom Brady got to know about this.
“I just went around shopping”: Leonard Fournette justifies his decision to meet with the Patriots

Leonard Fournette appeared on the Rich Eisen Show where he gave us the detailed story of how Brady essentially got him an extension with the Bucs. Before Lenny had stated that Brady texted him once he got to know he was meeting with the Patriots but now we have a detailed account of what actually went down.
“I was a free agent, I didn’t know if I was going to return back to the Bucs or not, the future was uncertain so I was going around shopping to see what teams had in store for me and when I went to New England, he (Tom Brady) texts me, he’s like, ‘Man, what’s your ass doing there,’ I’m just shopping around trying to see what’s good for me, what’s available for me and provide for my family. He was like, ‘Man I’ll call you back,’ and the next thing you know, Tampa called me with an offer,” Leonard Fournette lays the entire situation down.
It comes as no shocker that Tom had something to do with the team offering a contract to Lenny as he was an integral part of the Super Bowl-winning squad and had an amazing performance in the finals. The quarterback immediately called the front office and probably told them he did not want to lose Fournette and definitely not to his own former team.
Tom’s word carries a lot of weightage, we already knew that but now we know that it is true and he is nothing short of a general manager for the Bucs as he has a say in who the team trades for. Leonard Fournette deserved that contract extension and it is good to see him stay in Tampa.
