The New England Patriots legend Tom Brady and the former Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning shared one of the most intense rivalries in sports history. Tom Brady emerged victorious when it comes to career accomplishments but the Patriots icon once had to apologize to the Colts legend for his critical leaked emails.
Back in 2015, when Tom Brady and the Patriots were being investigated for the deflategate scandal some of Brady’s emails were released in documents filed as the NFLPA’s lawsuit on behalf of the 15-time Pro Bowl quarterback. One such email had messages between Brady and his friend referring to Peyton Manning’s career.
“I’ve got another 7 or 8 years. He has 2. That’s the final chapter…Game on,” read the email referencing Manning. Brady received a lot of hate for his comments and was scrutinized by the Colts fans. However, Manning took the high road and squashed the beef instead of responding. He also revealed that Tom Brady ended up apologizing to him for the messages.
As for the deflategate scandal, Tom Brady and the Pats’ head coach Bill Belichick denied any wrongdoings from the beginning. However, after an investigation by the league, Brady was suspended for 4 games and the Patriots ended up losing their 1st round draft pick. The deflategate saga remains a massive blackspot in Brady’s remarkable career that spawned over two decades.

Peyton Manning claimed Tom Brady’s apology was unnecessary
After the massive backlash for his emails referencing Peyton Manning, the former Patriots QB Tom Brady sent a text to the Colts icon apologizing for the messages about him. However, the 5-time league MVP later claimed that the apology was an unnecessary one.
“Everybody has been speculating on that for a long time, so I guess he’s joining the list of trying to predict. Hey, Tom sent me an apology text that was unnecessary. The fact his emails got revealed, that doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. No harm, no foul,” said Manning according to Bleacher Report.
As Tom Brady predicted, Manning retired from football a year after the messages in 2016. On the other hand, Brady also went on to play for 7 years as he retired from the sport in 2023 following an abysmal season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Following his retirement, the 3-time league MVP QB Tom Brady is currently enjoying father time as he’s often seen spending time with his children. Furthermore, Brady plans to start his second career as a sportscaster with Fox Network in the fall of 2024.
