The NFL offseason has officially begun and while the regular season was extremely entertaining, the postseason is nothing short of exciting either. The quarterback pool this time is exciting to speculate upon. While there are not many superstar QBs to go around, there are formidable athletes who are talented and capable of being franchise players. One such player is Daniel Jones, the floor general for the New York Giants.

Jones has had one of the best seasons in the NFL this year. The New York Giants ended their season with a 9-7 record and made it to the playoffs. They beat a talented Minnesota Vikings in the NFL Wild Card Round and made it all the way to the Divisional Round where they were not able to close out the game against the Philadelphia Eagles. While their Super Bowl run ended in the second round, Giants fans were still happy as the team performed extremely well in comparison to previous years.

This year was a do-or-die opportunity for Daniel Jones, who was playing in the last year of his rookie contract. His future as a starter in the league was dependent upon his performance and boy, did he live up to the hype. Jones played well this year with 472 attempted passes, 317 completions, 3,205 yards, and 15 touchdowns with just 5 interceptions.

In the playoffs, he was alright as he was able to complete 39 of 62 passes with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. While these may not be mind-blowing stats, they are not bad either, and it is noteworthy that Jones has a lot of room for improvement, which means he will continue to get better.

In light of his best season, there arise a lot of questions regarding the QBs future. Will the Giants re-sign him or will we see him start next season in a different uniform? Let’s take a look at 5 teams that could use Daniel Jones at the QB position.

1. Indianapolis Colts

The Colts are in full rebuild mode. Their move to hire Jeff Saturday as the team’s interim HC did not work as the team continued to lose games and make mistakes on the field. Now, the team has hired former Eagles OC Shane Steichen as their Head Coach. He just went to the Super Bowl and fans saw what the Philly offense looked like this season.

The one key piece that the Indianapolis Colts continue to lack is a solid quarterback. The team has switched a lot of QBs in the last decade and this season; they started the year with Matt Ryan but ended it with Sam Ehlinger. None of the QBs on their roster were able to solidify their position and prove that they can be the future of this team. The Colts’ situation is one that Daniel Jones is familiar with, as it is similar to that of the New York Giants when he was drafted.

The Colts have some depth on their roster and assuming the team makes more acquisitions in the offseason, they can go to an entirely different level. The team also has the 4th pick in the draft this year, which means they do have the option to draft a QB and start from scratch. However, considering that the team knows what Jones brings to the table, they may be taking a closer look at him than fans would anticipate.

2. Houston Texans

The Texans, like Colts, are in a complete rebuild. The team has a lot of work to do on its roster. They have mediocre depth and defense, but they also lack a solid quarterback. While Davis Mills was alright this season and showed fans that he can play in the NFL, his position as a starter is one that is still uncertain.

Daniel Jones could play a significant role in improving their QB situation, but considering that the team has the 2nd pick in this year’s draft, Houston is more likely to draft a new QB than orchestrate a trade for one.

3. New York Jets

There is no place like home, and what better spot to land in than on the other team, which is based out of the same city? The Jets had their moments this season where they showed fans that this team can improve and get better over the years. Their biggest issue was quarterback Zach Wilson, who showed significant flaws not just in the game but in the locker room as well.

Wilson was not consistent and is not the leader that his position demands him to be, while Daniel Jones is not known for his leadership, he is an upgrade over his counterpart on the Jets, and he is known to be humble and a guy that his teammates enjoy being around. The New York Jets roster is relatively young, but the defense with Sauce Gardner and Bryce Hall is no joke.

On depth, with Garrett Wilson, Elijah Moore, and Braxton Berrios, Daniel Jones may be the missing piece who can not just help the team improve to a better record but evolve with it and take them to the next level.

4. Las Vegas Raiders

Las Vegas may be the go-to destination for tourists all around the world, but it is the last place that NFL players wish to be in at the moment. The team’s longtime quarterback Derek Carr just departed, the future of Davante Adams remains uncertain, and the team’s Head Coach Josh McDaniels did not do well this season, but there is hope.

DJ Turner and Hunter Renfrow are still on the team, assuming Adams decides to stay on the roster, Jones will have the most talented weapons than he does on the Giants. The Raiders’ defense is good and with a good quarterback, this team is capable of big things!

5. Washington Commanders

The Commanders had a rollercoaster season this year and a lot of inconsistencies at the quarterback position. Carson Wentz did not look like the man he was in Philadelphia and while injuries do have a lot to contribute to that, one cannot overlook the fact that he has regressed. Ron Rivera needs to take a look at his QB room and consider some upgrades, the team needs a young quarterback who can bring some energy to the locker room and Daniel Jones might just be that guy.

The Commanders have the 16th pick in the first round which means by that point, all the top QBs from this year’s class would have been drafted by other teams so that is all the more reason for the team to consider giving Danny Dimes a shot.

While these teams can use Daniel Jones as their frontman, it is doubtful that the Giants would even let him be available on the trading block. This year, Brian Daboll needed to know that Jones can be relied upon and the QB proved that to him. The Giants will attempt to do everything in their power to retain Daniel Jones as he has been groomed within that system and considering how far the team went this year, the front office would not want to risk starting over again with a new QB.
