Shohei Ohtani is the talk of the town after he agreed to a massive long-term deal worth $700 million. His deal has made the deal the biggest in team sports history. This deal has had athletes in the NFL and NBA contemplating their decisions to pursue baseball rather than their respective sports. Travis and Jason Kelce were left flabbergasted by this deal and discussed the deal on The New Heights Podcast.

The biggest question on their minds was, how is a sport as boring as baseball paying its players’ big money like this while sports contracts in other team sports such as football and basketball are not even in the same galaxy as Ohtani’s.

What the fu*k is really going on in this world?

That was Travis’ first reaction to this deal. But despite the value of the contract, the tight end cannot see himself playing baseball for a living.

I don't really want to play baseball, it's a lot of money but..I need more action man--Growing up, it's not a fun sport for kids...unless you're pitching or catching, it's a boring day...there's not a lot of action out there.
His brother Jason Kelce chimed in

The Kelce brothers are not fans of baseball because, when compared to the NFL and the NBA, players do not have to do a lot.

Travis Kelce would much rather play basketball rather than baseball because the latter sport is repetitive and he cannot see enjoying that. The brothers agreed that baseball is a sport enjoyed most by adults who are not as fit physically. The biggest criticism they had of baseball camp and training is with respect to the athletes’ workout regimen.

Travis and Jason Kelce are scratching their heads over conditioning training in baseball

Conditioning training is essential in virtually every physical sport. In the NFL and NBA, athletes go through the most rigorous drills in order to improve their stamina, speed, agility, and endurance as the respective sports demand that from them. However, in baseball, there is no requirement for a high level of conditioning because there is not much running needed.

The one thing that I used to absolutely hate...was the conditioning in baseball.
Travis stated

His brother Jason responded with “What are we doing?” The tight end then went on a rant about the conditioning training,

Get me the f**k out of here. Why am I running foul-pole to foul-pole? Why am I running like a cross-country jacka**...I'm not doing this, it's so unnecessary.

Travis Kelce views the conditioning training as pointless because when he was playing in games, he would barely begin to sweat even after the entire match had concluded.

When the sport itself does not require a higher degree of conditioning, it makes no sense to put athletes through that. Jason brought up Babe Ruth. His physique was average, he was a longshot from the conditioned physiques that baseball players have today. But despite this, he still remains the greatest player in the sport to date.

There's zero cardio necessary to be a baseball player...we should just be doing sprints...makes no sense to do this jogging, monotonous cardio that has nothing to with the game.
Jason Kelce concluded

In the High School level, it makes sense to put the athletes through conditioning drills but at an elite level, it just becomes more of a calorie-burning workout because the game is such that players do not have to walk around conditioned all year long.
