The college football season is up and away. This season, besides the big schools, the Colorado Buffaloes have also created a lot of buzz ever since they announced the Dallas Cowboys legend Deion Sanders as their head coach. Sanders brought some reinforcements with him from his old school Jackson State Tigers. One star player among them is Travis Hunter.
A former 5-star recruit out of high school is poised to stardom as he is set to play as both wide receiver and cornerback for the Colorado Buffaloes in the 2023 college football season. According to reports, Hunter is listed as both a cornerback and a pass catcher in Colorado’s official depth for the season.
It is very very rare for a collegiate player to play both offense and defense. Only a handful of players have done it in the past including Dick Butkus, Champ Bailey, and Charles Woodson. All three players mentioned went on to have great careers in the NFL and were inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Hunter is now looking to follow in their footsteps and rise to stardom by playing both offense and defense. Travis Hunter, who is set to make his Colorado debut this weekend in their game against the #17 TCU stands at 6’1″ and weighs 165 pounds. His size, speed, and remarkable athleticism make him one of the most exciting college football prospects in years.
Hunter was a consensus 5-star prospect and the No.1 recruit in the 2022 class. Despite the offers from multiple big schools, Hunter committed to the Jackson State Tigers since he wanted to play under head coach Deion Sanders. When Sanders accepted the head coaching gig at Colorado, Hunter and many other players followed Sanders and transferred to the University of Colorado.

“He is special,” said a Colorado assistant with 20-plus years of NFL experience, according to Fox Sports. “He has great tools and a high IQ, He understands the game better than some of the pros that I have coached in the past, and he is still learning the nuances of the game that could help him go to the next level… He’s special.”
Travis Hunter also believes he will be a frontrunner for the Heisman Memorial Trophy this season. He has to be very special to compete with the likes of Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Blake Corum.
