Travis Kelce was an instrumental figure in the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl run last season. The TE gave an exceptional performance throughout the season, and his partnership with QB Patrick Mahomes was deadly.

Although he has received appreciation and fame, the only thing he lacks is good money. Kelce believes that TEs are the most underpaid position in the league, and that should change.

San Francisco 49ers TE George Kittle is the highest paid in his position, with a yearly salary of $15 million. Kelce comes in a close second with $14.3 million annually. To counter this problem, Travis Kelce and George Kittle have started TE University along with Greg Olsen. Their aim is to educate all the TEs in the physical and mental aspects of the game. This will lead to them getting paid better than they are currently.

“We started doing this (Tight End University) because, you know, we saw the guys doing it across the league, and I think it’s huge for everybody to kind of bounce ideas off of each other. Especially when we all kind of feel like we’re the most underpaid position in the league,” Travis Kelce stated on the New Heights podcast.

Tight End is one of the most complicated and draining positions in the NFL. For example, Travis Kelce did both blocking and receiving for the Chiefs during their Super Bowl run.

On the other hand, WRs get paid way more than TEs, and their job is just receiving. Last season, Kelce had more touchdowns than the highest-paid receiver in the league, Davante Adams.

There’s a serious need for education regarding the TE position, and Travis Kelce is the flag bearer for it. The Chiefs TE has started the University with the same aim. The students will be doing extraneous physical drills while also watching game films to understand the game better.

Kelce will surely address the pay gap when he’s up for a contract extension in several years. The Chiefs TE is an important part of the organization and is on his way to becoming the greatest TE of all time. Therefore, the Chiefs will have to pay him accordingly to retain his services for the long term.
