The Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce recently faced a huge backlash after he appeared to be spiking the Lombardi Trophy on stage during the opening night of his inaugural Food and Music festival Kelce Jam. The star tight end chugged a beer off the trophy before spiking it. And now, Kelce has clarified his actions amidst the backlash.
During a recent episode of his New Heights podcast with his brother and the Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, Travis explained the situation. He revealed the thought process behind drinking tequila seltzer off the Lombardi and spiking it on the stage during the debut of Kelce Jam festival in Kansas City during the 2023 NFL Draft weekend.
Travis claimed that he always wanted to drink out of the legendary Stanley Cup so he twisted his dreams with football’s highest price. “I always wanted to do it, so when I thought of, ‘How could I drink out of this legendary trophy?’, the Lombardi Luge, baby,” he said.
Furthermore, the 8-time Pro Bowl tight end also went on to reveal that he did not spike the original Lombardi Trophy and he would never disrespect the legacy of football like that.
“The people are absolutely f**ing ill if you think that I would ever disrespect the actual Lombardi Trophy like that,” Kelce said. “I have way too much respect for the game, the history of the game, I would never frigging do that to the Lombardi Trophy. It was all for the show, all to try and get everybody fired up. I have no reason to do that to the Lombardi Trophy.”
However, the Eagles center Jason Kelce did not agree with Travis. The 6-time Pro Bowl center claimed that Travis would “1000% disrespect the Lombardi Trophy.”

Travis Kelce and the Chiefs aim for a back-to-back Super Bowl victory
Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs won the third Super Bowl ring in the franchise’s history last season after defeating the Eagles in the championship game back in February. And now after a successful off-season where they managed to add some talents to the roster, the Chiefs, led by their franchise QB Patrick Mahomes are looking to win the Super Bowl in back-to-back years.
No team has won the Super Bowl in consecutive years since 2005. The New England Patriots under Tom Brady were the last team to achieve that feat. Now, the Chiefs will look to become the first team to win the championship in two straight seasons since 2005.
