The Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl LVIII, becoming one of the few teams to win back-to-back NFL championships. The team’s victory against the San Francisco 49ers was not without its share of drama and controversy.
A heated moment between Andy Reid and Travis Kelce continues to capture the headlines. The tight end yelled at his coach before almost pushing him down for not putting him in the game on a play.
While Kelce has apologized and Andy Reid has since then made it clear that all is good between them, the incident has left a bad taste in the mouth of fans who have called the tight end out for his behavior. He got a reality check from his brother, Jason Kelce, who was also in agreement that Travis crossed the line when he pushed Andy Reid. Kelce attempted to justify his actions by stating,
I'm a passionate guy. I love Coach Reid, Coach Reid knows how much I love to play for him, how much I love to be a product of his coaching career.Travis Kelce via the New Heights podcast
This is where it really gets interesting. Travis Kelce went on to say that he will not play for any head coach but Andy Reid.
I'm not playing for anybody else but Big Red. If he calls it quits this ear I'm out of there with him, man.
That is a really big statement to make. He essentially stated that if Reid walks, so does he. Does that mean if his HC retires, Kelce will not play another snap in the NFL? It could be a possibility.
Fans refuting Travis Kelce’s attempt to show positive image post shoving HC Andy Reid during Super Bowl
Of course, at the moment there are no talks about Andy Reid parting ways with the Chiefs. On the contrary, he could get an extension from the team. But time is ticking and the 65-year-old head coach has been in the league for a long time. He has been an HC for 25 years, that is a really long time.
Fans online were not happy with his response and here’s what they had to say:
Of course! There is no other coach he could bully. https://t.co/ja5opkgTk2

If they lost the game I guarantee you Kelce wouldn’t be saying that about him. He is a manchild

Kelce, you don't belong on the same field with Big Red.
— BigFan (@Byc1973) February 12, 2024
KC, trade Kelce now. Get him off the team. He will always blame someone else and not man up.
You don't want Kelce as a face of the team. What a joke.
KELCE – what you did on the sideline to Coach Reid was disrespectful and inappropriate

In the same segment, Travis Kelce acknowledged that he has spoken to Andy Reid about the incident.
I talked to Coach Reid about it today and we kind of chuckled about it. I couldn't be more proud of being his product on the field...
He does owe his entire career to Big Red because the man drafted him and believed in him when his name was unheard of. No matter how much the tight end tries to justify himself or express the respect he has for Andy Reid, this incident will always be a stain on his career.
