The Kansas City Chiefs are currently preparing for the upcoming season. They will take on the Detroit Lions in the 2023 NFL season opener which is set to take place on September 7. With just a few days to go for the season opener, the Chiefs and defensive tackle Chris Jones still haven’t reached a middle ground on their contract talks. Amidst this tense situation, the Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce sends a plea to Jones to return to the squad while labeling him as the best defensive player in the league.
“He’s the best defensive player in the league right now. He’s deserving of all the money in the world. Chris, I love you, please come back. Now,” Kelce said during a recent episode of his podcast New Heights.

Furthermore, the All-Pro tight end went on to make a bargain with the Chiefs’ Pro Bowl defensive tackle. Travis Kelce further said that the Chiefs badly need Jones on their squad and that he wants to win another championship with Jones.
“Chris, can you please come back? You’re really scaring me,” Travis Kelce said. “I don’t get it. You must know something that I don’t know because I just don’t get it. I really want to get another Super Bowl ring with you, brother. This is me bargaining you to just come back and play football for the Chiefs. Please, we need you. We need you bad.”
On the flip side, Travis’ big brother and co-host Jason Kelce hoped that Jones would continue his holdout at least past the week 11 game between the Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Chris Jones is expected to miss some games

The Chiefs and the star defensive tackle Chris Jones are reportedly not close to a solution in Jones’ contract negotiations. Due to the contract dispute, Jones is expected to miss some games in the 2023 regular season.
Jones has already accumulated a hefty fine due to his holdout. The 29-year-old star is set to approximately pay $2 million in fines for missing training camp in the off-season according to multiple reports.
And now, if Jones misses games the amount will get bigger. He will miss out on roughly $1.1 million per game check for every regular season game he misses per reports.
Jones previously revealed on the social media platform X that he is looking to hold out till week 8 of the NFL season, if the contract dispute continues. If he does miss eight weeks, he will forfeit approximately $8.8 million in-game checks.
