Travis Kelce started his football career as a quarterback and thank god he ended up being a tight end (even though he has played the QB position!) because him throwing the football wouldn’t be a pretty sight. Kelce had the opportunity to throw the first pitch for the Cleveland Guardians‘ home opener against the Seattle Mariners.
Kelce stepped up to the plate, unbuttoned his “I’m From Cleveland” T-shirt, and got ready to throw the pitch. The Chiefs’ tight end threw the ball short, and it bounced its way to the catcher.
Guardians pitcher Shane Bieber quickly got out of the way to avoid any injury. Travis Kelce immediately ran up to Bieber and hugged him to make sure he was alright. Both superstars burst out laughing as Kelce spiked the baseball in a similar fashion to a football.
Patrick Mahomes makes fun of Travis Kelce’s first pitch
Travis Kelce has been at the center of the Chiefs’ offense alongside Patrick Mahomes. Seeing Kelce’s horrible first pitch at the ballgame, Mahomes tweeted, “Ayyyyyy bruhhhhhhhhh” and added a lot (understatement) of laughing emojis at the end to show how embarrassed he was of his friend.
Travis Kelce accepted that his baseball skills have been a bit rusty and gave a pretty witty response to his pitch. Kelce tweeted, “Been spiking a football for the past 10 years… can you tell?” The 33-year-old Pro Bowler has been hardwired to throw the ball into the ground or “spike” it once he scores a touchdown. Kelce has done that celebration 69 times. Some habits are hard to overcome.
Terry Francona, manager of the Guardians, was asked whether he was scared to put his ace pitcher in a position where he could’ve sustained an injury. To this, Francona replied, “There would be the next time. I’m glad he didn’t tackle him.” Yeah, thank god he didn’t tackle him because that would’ve been too unfortunate for the Guardians. However, in the end, it wouldn’t have mattered because the Mariners won the game 5-3.
Travis Kelce has been enjoying the offseason after winning the Super Bowl. A few days back, the star tight end was at the CMT Awards in Austin, Texas, and had a fun evening with the stars of the music world, notably Carrie Underwood and Megan Thee Stallion.
He also starred on Saturday Night Live with his brother Jason. Kelce isn’t camera shy, and this has been rightly supported by his offseason appearances from the Academy Awards to the baseball game.
