Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce dropped a major bombshell regarding the whopping percentage of players who use cannabis in the National Football League. This comes in at a time when the league has started to come down hard on players using substances, with several suspensions being handed out in the past couple of seasons.

Kelce himself knows a thing or two about using cannabis since he was found guilty of consuming marijuana during his college football days with the Cincinnati Bearcats. He copped a one-year suspension for failing his drug test, which will always be a small blemish on what has turned out to be an exceptional career otherwise.

Kelce, who won his second Super Bowl title with the Chiefs in 2022, revealed during an interaction with Vanity Fair that approximately 80 percent of NFL players use cannabis. While the number may not be factually accurate, it quite evidently depicts that there are more players using cannabis than those who are not.

The 33-year-old veteran is all set to enter his 10th season this year and, by now, knows every trick of the trade. He also spilled out a way how players have found a loophole to avoid getting caught and consequently escaping suspension in the process.

Kelce claimed that since the regular season starts in the month of September, players stop taking cannabis by the middle of June to get it out of their system by the time they are supposed to get tested. However, since the rate of metabolism differs from individual to individual, there’s really no such fixed time for footballers to stop using cannabis before getting into their work ahead of the gruesome season.

“If you just stop (using) in the middle of July, you’re fine,” Travis Kelce said during his interaction with Vanity Fair. “A lot of guys stop a week before and they still pass (drug tests) because everybody’s working out in the heat and sweating their tail off. Nobody’s really getting hit for it anymore.”

Most recently, former NFL quarterback Cam Newton also suggested that the NFL should allow the NFL kickers to smoke marijuana to relieve some of the pressure before partaking in a high-pressure field goal attempt.
