The Kansas City Chiefs matchup against the Buffalo Bills has become nothing short of a rivalry game. Last week, the teams faced off, and owing to a last-minute offside call against Kadarius Toney, the Chiefs ended up losing the game.

However, despite their loss, there was one play in this game that was a major “What if?” It was Travis Kelce‘s lateral pass to Kadarius Toney which did not count because the receiver was a step behind from lateral space.

The tight end spoke about the crazy play on The New Heights Podcast with his brother Jason Kelce. Travis confirmed that he had never thrown that far of a lateral in his life ever and stated that it was a play that he whipped up on the spot.

It was such a bang bang, I caught it turned up field, saw the single high safety coming down, knew I had broke the contain angle of the guy chasing me...I knew it was two on one...I know KT (Kadarius Toney) was over there from the route he ran, saw him from the corner of my eye...

Travis read the field just right. However, Kadarius Toney was a bit behind on his route which led to the play not counting. While the play did not go the way they wanted it to, fans certainly enjoyed it as the entire stadium roared when the star TE made that lateral pass. The tight end cannot help but imagine and wonder one thing, how would it have felt if the play did indeed work the way they wanted it to.

Travis Kelce wants to repeat his side lateral pass to Kadarius Toney in the future

The one thing the tight end is happy about is the fact that the Chiefs did not lose possession of the ball due to this play. Kelce said,

In retrospect, could you imagine if that got tipped?

Head Coach Andy Reid would be furious at him for having tried something like that in the first place.

I could see coach Reid in my head..

Jason Kelce asked his brother what was coach Reid’s response to the side lateral play after. Travis Kelce did not hold back and stated that he did not even talk to him on the sidelines. “I didn’t talk to Coach Reid,” Travis said. He further stated that even though the play did not count, he and Kadarius Toney could not help but appreciate the sequence of events.

I went up to KT today, man and I told him, 'Man, we had that place f***ing rocking!

Travis Kelce made one thing clear, this was not the first and last time he is going to throw a side lateral. He made it clear that he intends to repeat this play in the future and this time, make sure it counts.

If we get the opportunity again, I'm going to throw that s**t right into his chest again--I'm trusting in 19 every time he's (Toney) on the field out there.

He defended his teammate Kadarius Toney who has been subjected to a lot of criticism lately.
