Tre’Davious White, cornerback for the Buffalo Bills said during the post-game interview that Damar Hamlin sent a text message at 2:31 a.m. to him before the team stepped on the field. “What he said was, ‘I’m thinking about y’all, I’m sorry that I did that to y’all,’” White recalled. “For him to check on us when he’s the person that’s going through what he’s going through, man. That just shows what type of person he is … when he’s the one that’s going through it.”

Damar Hamlin really is a sweetheart. The entire league honored the young safety as he fought back against death and inspired the entire country. Clubs all around the league highlighted their stadiums with Hamlin’s jersey number 3. Players wore “Love for Damar” T-shirts during the pregame warmup, coaches wore them during the entire game. Hamlin’s unfortunate accident reminded the league of what was important and brought them closer together.

“I just want to hug the s*** out of him,” White said while holding his tears back. “Because in the meeting room, he sit like two seats away from me, and every time he come in the meeting room: ‘T. Weezy.’ I can’t wait to hear his voice and be able to touch him and just hug the s*** out of him and hear that again.” White also added that the whole week has exacted a toll on the players as every time they closed their eyes all they saw was Damar Hamlin lying on the field.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott said that Damar in no way should feel responsible for anything. He added that maybe this was God’s will because this incident taught people to put love first and how strong the country is in times of crisis. White also added that what happened with Hamlin should never happen with anyone else in the league.
