On Sunday, Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars went against the Baltimore Ravens in their week 15 matchup. The Jaguars were looking to bounce back following their two straight losses, but things didn’t go according to their plan. That’s mostly because of the poor execution on the field combined with head-scratching clock management.
With just 30 seconds left in the second quarter, the Jaguars were trailing by 10 points and were facing a crucial 2nd down and 11 from the Ravens’ 41-yard line. The Jaguars were out of timeouts and were looking to score some quick points to cut the lead before halftime. During the crucial moment in the game, Lawrence heaved a prayer to his wide receiver Zay Jones, who completed the catch inside the Ravens’ 5-yard line.
Incredible play by the team! But what happened next left everyone in the stadium scratching their heads. After Jones completed the catch, everyone expected the Jaguars to line up quickly and spike the ball to stop the clock. However, Lawrence and the Jaguars decided to go shotgun position directly after the entire team ran to the 5-yard line.
The Jaguars managed to make one play as Lawrence completed to Parker Washington, but the wide receiver neither found the endzone nor the sideline, which led the clock to run out before they could attempt another play. At the very least, the Jaguars could’ve attempted a field goal and cut the lead to 7 points, but they returned to the locker room empty-handed due to their poor clock management.
In the end, the Jaguars never found any momentum in the game and suffered a brutal 23-7 loss on Sunday against the Baltimore-based football team. Besides, their star quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, also suffered an injury and has been placed on concussion protocol. According to reports, Lawrence suffered the injury in the fourth quarter, but he played the entire game.
Social media baffled by Trevor Lawrence’s poor decision
NFL fans on social media were baffled by the Jaguars QB’s poor decision to run a play instead of spiking the ball during the final seconds of the first in their week 15 loss against the Ravens.
Fans called out the former 1st overall pick and head coach Doug Pederson for their poor clock management and demanded some explanation. Check out the reactions attached below.
Nonetheless, the Jaguars fell to an 8-6 record following Sunday’s loss. With that loss, there’s a three-way tie in the AFC South division title race between the Jaguars, Houston Texans, and the Indianapolis Colts.
