Trey Lance or Jimmy G is a question that has haunted the top brass of San Francisco 49ers for a long time. Lance was drafted by the 49ers with the 3rd pick in 2021 NFL draft. Since then Lance vs Garoppolo has been a topic of debate in NFL circles but one rival coach has an answer.
According to Mike Sando of the Athletic an anonymous coach whose team plays the 49ers said that “That would be like my early Christmas present if they just get rid of Jimmy, so that way he can’t play for them, and then make Trey be your guy,” Sando ‘s annual QB tier roundup has Garapollo slotted at 16th place in tier 3 while Lance is a distant 26th.

The coach must have been very good this year as Santa has given his Christmas gift very early as the 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan words “We have moved on to Trey,” he said. “We think Jimmy would have been traded if the surgery didn’t happen.”
Two time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots, Garoppolo led 49ers to two NFC championship games including this past season was expected to be replaced by Lance anytime since the day Lance was drafted will not start next season. Garapollo has faced criticism despite having a stellar 25-12 record as 49ers starting QB.
49ers must know something that their rivals don’t as they are putting their full support behind Lance as another coach told Sando “The very little I’ve seen of him last season, he’s got a little Tim Tebow to him — it’s a long delivery. It seems like there are some mechanical things he has to work out. But that is from watching a limited number of plays.”
49ers rivals must be celebrating if these words are to be believed as Lance’s era starts in the Bay area.
