Quarterback is one of the most critical positions in the NFL. These guys are held responsible for the team’s win or loss because the ball is in their hands and during the play, they have to figure out which player is open to get that crucial down or touchdown within a few seconds. This is why they are paid the big bucks.

Initially, teams would generally never give fully guaranteed deals because honestly, the league is highly competitive. One day you are at the top and the next you are a bust, a nobody. Add to that, injuries that hinder the players from playing entire seasons. Teams would generally give 30-50% of the contract’s amount fully guaranteed, which made the team and the quarterback happy.

However, all this changed in March 2022, when the Cleveland Browns signed a five-year $230 million fully guaranteed contract with Deshaun Watson. This disrupted the quarterback market and now everyone in the league is chasing after a fully guaranteed deal. Top-tier players were given fully guaranteed deals worth over $150 million because they were franchise quarterbacks capable of winning the Super Bowl.

Lamar Jackson, the quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens, just completed the last year of his rookie contract in 2022 and is reportedly asking for a fully guaranteed contract extension just like Watson’s. Jackson has been on the outs with the Ravens since the start of the 2022 season and despite several contract negotiations, the two sides haven’t been able to reach a point that is beneficial for both parties.

Almost every analyst and insider has been reporting that Lamar Jackson isn’t budging from his stand and even rejected Baltimore’s five-year $250 million contract extension with $133M fully guaranteed. The 2019 NFL MVP believes he is capable of a much more lucrative contract than Deshaun Watson and has sent the Ravens’ counteroffers that have exceeded the Browns quarterback’s deal.

Fans have had it with all the drama surrounding Lamar Jackson and the Ravens. Here are a few tweets where fans are venting their frustration about Jackson rejecting every deal that is being offered to him.

Just this morning, Stephen A. Smith revealed that a source from Lamar Jackson’s camp told him that the quarterback never asked the Ravens for a fully guaranteed deal. Smith suggested that maybe there has been a surgical PR attack against Jackson. This has changed the way the league has looked at the drama for the past 12 months. It’ll be interesting to see what new reports come in regarding Jackson’s future at Baltimore.
