The Houston Texans aced their first-round selections in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Texans went with two first-round draft picks and have selected two premium prospects in the draft as they selected their future franchise QB C.J. Stroud and the top defensive end prospect Will Anderson Jr.
The Texans turned in the second overall pick as soon as the Carolina Panthers drafted QB Bryce Young as the 1st overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Despite all the knocks against the Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud, the Texans have dressed him as their future franchise leader. Stroud was a 2-year starter at Ohio State and finished as a Heisman Trophy finalist in both years he started for the Buckeyes.
But getting him wasn’t even the best part of the night for the Texans fans. The Texans general manager Nick Caserio pulled an ace out of his sleeve as he traded back up to the third overall pick and selected the best defensive prospect in the draft Will Anderson Jr. Caserio drafted two franchise-altering talents with back-to-back picks. Will Anderson Jr. and C.J. Stroud both are day 1 starters and could immediately become dominant forces in the league.
There’s a high chance these back-to-back Houston draft picks could become the Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year, award winners. Furthermore, with some more additions, the Texans could really make some noise in the weak AFC South division.
Social media reacts to the Texans drafting Will Anderson Jr. and C.J. Stroud
The Texans fans on social media went berserk after their team pulled a masterclass in the 2023 NFL Draft by selecting two top prospects Will Anderson and C.J. Stroud with back-to-back picks.
The Houston-based football team entered the draft with the 2nd overall pick and the 12th overall pick. However, after selecting the highly touted QB C.J. Stroud with their 2nd overall pick, the Texans swooped back to 3rd overall by trading with Arizona Cardinals.
The Texans gave up their 12th overall pick, a 2023 second-round pick, a 2024 first-round pick, and a 2024 third-rounder in exchange for the Cardinals’ 3rd overall pick and a 2023 fourth-round pick.
So the Texans didn’t give up a lot to change the future of their franchise. They still have another 2024 first-round pick in their arsenal and have a lot of draft capital left in the 2023 draft. The future certainly looks bright for the Houston fans under their new head coach DeMeco Ryans.
