The New York Giants had a good season in 2022 as they ended it with a 9-7-1 and went to the playoffs. Quarterback Daniel Jones finally had a great performance since he was drafted sixth overall by the Giants in the 2019 NFL draft.
Jones initially started his rookie season as a backup to Eli Manning, but soon took over as a starter and had one of the worst performances in the league during that year. He led the league in fumbles (18) and managed a 3-9 record in the 13 games he started.
In 2022, Daniel Jones was a completely different quarterback under the new head coach, Brian Daboll. He had a completion percentage of 67.2 and threw for 3205 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions in the regular season.
Daniel Jones wants upwards of $45M from the Giants

Daniel Jones led the Giants to their first playoff appearance since 2016 and won the road wild-card game against the Vikings. In the 31-24 win over Minnesota, the 25-year-old became the first quarterback in NFL playoff history to throw for 300-plus yards, two touchdown passes, and also rush for 70-plus rushing yards in the same game. However, the Giants were handed a swift defeat by the Eagles in the divisional playoffs, cutting short their Super Bowl run.
Jones completed his rookie contract, but the Giants declined his fifth-year option at the beginning of the 2022 season. Given Jones’ exceptional performance, the team is looking to resign him, but the contract negotiations aren’t going too well. As per multiple reports, the Duke alum is asking more than $45 million per year to continue playing for the New York-based franchise.
This quickly set the Internet on fire and fans were amazed by Jones asking to be paid more than Super Bowl LVII MVP Patrick Mahomes. While his performance in the 2022 season was definitely a commendable one, he did not break any major records during his campaign, which has left the fans making a mockery of him. Here are a few reactions of fans on Twitter.
It is highly unlikely that the Giants agree to pay Daniel Jones upward of $45 million per year. They will try to get him to sign a contract in the ballpark of $30 to $40 million, and if he doesn’t agree, then they franchise tag him and look for a trade option. The franchise tag deadline is on March 7, so they will have to hash out all the extension talks before that. Let’s see how much Jones is paid in contrast to his ask!
