On Thursday, the Detroit Lions went into Arrowhead as road underdogs and caused a major upset by defeating the Patrick Mahomes-led Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs were missing a couple of key players on both sides of the ball which put some extra pressure on Mahomes. Furthermore, the Chiefs’ wide receivers including Kadarius Toney putting up a disaster class didn’t help the Kansas City-based football team.

The Chiefs, as a team, had 5 dropped passes in the game which killed many drives. Especially, the former 1st round draft pick Kadarius Toney had one of the worst performances of his career on Thursday night. Toney caught one pass for negative one yards, which is abysmal, particularly for a person who is considered as the number 1 receiver.

Moreover, one of Toney’s multiple drops led to a pick-six which completely stopped the Chiefs’ momentum. During the third quarter of the game, the Chiefs were leading 14-7 and were facing a 3rd down around the midfield. Mahomes threw a perfect slant pass to Toney but the receiver couldn’t hold on to the rock.

The ball deflected off Toney’s hands and was scooped by the Lions’ rookie defensive back Brian Branch, who returned it 50 yards for a touchdown. That pick-six erased a 7-point deficit for the Detroit-based football team. In the end, the Chiefs lost the game by only one point. At one point, Mahomes even looked visibly upset because of the several dropped passes.

In addition, apart from the receivers, Mahomes didn’t get any help from his running backs either. Patrick Mahomes was the leading rusher for the Chiefs as he carried the rock 6 times for 45 yards while averaging 7.5 yards per attempt. The second leading rusher Isiah Pacheco had 23 rushing yards on 8 carries.

Nonetheless, following the week 1 disaster class by the Chiefs pass catchers, many believe general manager Brett Veach should be on the trade market looking to get some help for the 2-time league MVP Mahomes.
