The New York Jets are going all out this offseason. The biggest news that hit the stands in the offseason was the Jets trading for 4x NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers. The team also went and signed Allen Lazard, Mecole Hardman, and a lot of weapons on the offense for Rodgers to use.

With the pace the Jets are going, it looks like they will stop after winning the Lombardi Trophy. They are almost identical to the 2021 Los Angeles Rams who mortgaged their future but won the Super Bowl.

With the defense all-star-packed, the Jets are making moves on the other side of the scrimmage line as well. They already have Sauce Gardner who won the Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2022 and Carl Lawson along with former first-round pick Quinnen Williams. The Jets are starting to look like a championship team, but they first have to clear the trade for Aaron Rodgers, or else it was all or nothing.

Williams was selected third overall by the Jets in the 2019 NFL draft. Williams has been a force to be reckoned with on the defense and has a lasting impact on the team. He just completed his fourth year of the rookie contract and is waiting on an extension from the team.

The All-Pro defensive tackle did the research himself, not his agent. Quinnen Williams himself did all the legwork and found out some interesting facts about the Jets. “I’ve seen the stat that they haven’t re-signed a first-round draft pick in the last seven to 10 years, something like that,” Williams told reporters a few days back.

As per ESPN Stats & Information, the Jets are the only team in the league to not extend their first-round picks from 2012 to 2018. Williams plans to change that narrative. This offseason has been extremely lucrative for defensive players. Washington Commanders‘ Daron Payne signed a contract worth $22.5 million per year and Tennessee Titans‘ Jeffery Simmons signed a $23.5 million per year deal.

Quinnen Williams plans to hop on this train and is seeking compensation of around $23 million to $25 million. The 25-year-old has the stats to back his claim. He’s coming off his best season yet with being named All-Pro and being the team’s MVP. Williams had 12 total sacks and a 13.4 pressure percentage. Fans on Twitter are fighting from Williams’ corner and asking the Jets to pay him because he is an indispensable part of the defense.

The Jets currently have just $8 million in cap space, making one wonder how they can afford to pay Aaron Rodgers and extend Quinnen Williams to a $25 million annual salary. Williams is reportedly skipping the start of the offseason program, which starts on Monday if his extension doesn’t go through.
